Summer Transfer Window 2017

As a matter of priority. First week of the window, regardless of cost;

Michael Keane
Gylfi Sigurrdsson
Swansea allegedly turned down a £30m bid from China in the last few days. IF that's true then I doubt we can get him in the summer. If they stay up, they keep him; if they go down presumably the Chinese teams will be back in for him, so the fee will likely get very silly very quickly. I rate Gylfi very highly and have often said he's a player I would like to see us pursue... but only up to a point. If the fee is crazy, you have to say no.

No way Swansea could sell him in the middle of a relegation battle. Plus the Chinese bid is irrelevant if the player doesn't want to go there.

Well seeing as you asked for it mate, and I've got a spare 20 minutes, here you go.

I'd bring in

GK. Jack Butland £25m
CB. VVD £45m
LB. Andy Robertson £10m
AM. The Ox £20m (OOC Jun 18)
AM. Lewis Baker £15m
ST. Danny Welbeck £25m

I'd sell

James McCarthy £20m
Funes Mori £15m
Aaron Lennon £5m
Niasse £10m (based on figures quoted. lol)
Clev £8m
Del £12m
Jagielka free

Net spend lol £70m.

Lewis Baker is the left field one, and if you follow Englands U21s you'll know who he is. He is on Chelsea's books and currently on loan at Vitesse in Holland. He is a naturally right footed (but equally adept with both feet) playmaker and top drawer from dead ball situations. Great vision and has the killer pass to go with it. In my view, the best of the current crop of under 21s.

Andy Robertson is a cert to go down with Hull. He'd be a shoe into our wing back role when we play a back 3.

Jack Butland is my choice of the young English goalies. If we can't prise him away from Stoke I'd go for Pickford instead but I think he's a year or two off being top drawer.

Ox is out of contract year after next and doesn't get the game time at Arsenal. I think they may be forced to sell. I think he's top drawer and can play as a winger or in a midfield 3.

Wellbeck will also struggle for game time in a very competitive Arsenal front line and I think he'd be up for a move back upto the north west. His style would perfectly suit RKs 3 up top and I don't think any forward presses better.

Our squad would be

GKs

Robles
Butland
Stek

DEFENDERS

Coleman
Kenny
Holgate
Williams
VVD
Galloway
Browning
Baines
Robertson
Connolly

DMs

Schneids
Gana
Davies
Besic
Barry
Walsh

AMs

Barkley
Ox
Baker
Mirallas
Lookman
Bolasie
Dowell

ST

Lukaku
Wellbeck
Calvert Lewin

In my eyes, a very balanced 30 man squad, good mix of youth and experience but overall very young average age, that would fit with RKs style and be able to play variety of systems. That could challenge top 4 at same time as competing in Europe.

Or am I just being unrealistic.

It took you 20 minutes to come up with that garbage ? Lucky we don't do a Martinez and give you three years ! ;)

On a serious note, I can see ox and Robertson being brilliant acquisitions if possible.

Think it actually took me longer mate once I got going:).

My concern with Ox is the number of injuries he gets, but I'm putting that down to Arse's training methods as they always have a full treatment room, similar to us under RM.

The one I'd really like to get, strangely enough, is Lewis Baker, mainly because he's exactly the type of player we're desperately missing at the moment imo. Plus there aren't many of that ilk around. I was a big advocator of Hakim Ziyech but we missed out in him in the summer. Can't see it happening though as he has 2.5 years left on his contract, and Chelsea don't have a track record of selling their promising youth players to Premier competition. Amazing how, in recent years, so many Chelsea starlet's careers have gone off the rails. But that's another topic entirely worthy of it's own thread.

Lewis Baker is a great shout, I know Chelsea rate him really highly, along with Loftus-Cheek, Chalobah and I think there was a striker they also had.

Ziyech was worth the gamble, as was El Ghazi who has just moved to Lille. if we truly have some decent money then £7m for the young European talents aren't exactly any more of a gamble than spending £28m on Bolasie hoping he can find consistency for example.
