But if we didn't agree to the clause being there, we wouldn't have had him in the first place.

Nobody is saying it's an ideal situation. But if we have the chance to get our hands on a potential superstar for a season or 2 who can help get us champions league, and the potential downside is that we make a £30m profit on him, then it's no brainer for me. If the buy back is double the purchase price, we have to go for it IMO. We'll have £60m to put towards his replacement, and if we are in the Champions League we'll be able to attract the finished article rather than a teenager.
