I thought the player could only be talked to once the club had accepted a bid. Otherwise it’s tapping up isn’t it?

Often enough the club will let the buying club talk to the player while they're discussing transfer fees.

I have allowed myself to get excited, im not a fan of the falling over zaha does, but he was right bang up the top with the most creative and exciting players last season, right in his prime now. What an exciting attack we are creating.

That’s some conversation. I imagine these deals don’t even take long to do. Transfer deadline deals are evidence of that.

Buying "Premier League-proven" players is just as much a gamble as buying from abroad for me. The premium you pay easily balances out any perceived guarantees of performance, and you can end up getting absolutely shafted - even more so than a failed signing from another league.
