Can I just point something out..

Push comes to shove, Gbamin is meant to be very comfortable at centre half isn't he?
Played there 11 times in 3 seasons in Germany. Both him and silva said he came here to play midfield. He might be able to do it, but then do we not have the exact same problem in midfield?

It is a massive failure in this regard, yep. Not happy at all.

On Brands. 100%. His first black mark, tbh, but it better not be repeated. It's a huge oversight and one that could cost us. There was absolutely no reason not to have a back up in play.
The only thing I'd say is that Gbamin can play there and to a decent standard too apparently. He's also quick and powerful.

I can see us keeping hold of Schneids to cover holding mid in case Gbamin is required to cover there. Holgate is a better 4th choice than Jagielka IMO.

Yes it's a black mark on the window for Brands but it's not exactly a disaster. I thought it was more important that we brought the front man in and just hope it goes through OK.

I don’t believe this, they’ll have a list drawn up and feelers will be out. It’s getting people over the line by convincing other clubs to sell, valuations/replacements/budgets all come into play
Well - either way they've not delivered in this area which has left us with a gap - and plenty of scrambling round on deadline day by the sounds of it - but could all be paper talk of course...

It's no excuse and looks a bad miscalculation.

Silva spoke about how we had other targets if Zouma didn't happen and I seriously doubt that Smalling or Rojo were on that list at the time.

Free transfer cb. Nothing decent there.

How many wingers that would actually improve the side have moved this summer?

Neres, Ziyech, Lozano, Thauvin, Depay, Rakitic to name a few we could have got for around the same price as Iwobi and much less than Zaha

We're not too bad for wingers though, we really need a new centre half to fill in the gap Zouma has left, glad we swerved Rojo but sad we didn't have anyone else lined up although good CB's are hard to find these days

But not having a defender in is really bad from Brands. Really bad.
It’s really sad how a good window has been somewhat soured by the last few days’ dealings, or lack of. I wonder how non-Blues will perceive it?

Everything since Monday has seemed ad hoc and rushed, with an almost blind belief that we would get the men we wanted; really, it’s our own naivety.

I'm as disappointed as anyone not to get a CB but when you think that us, Arsenal & Leicester with £80m burning a whole in their pocket were all looking and only David Luiz was signed could be quite telling about what was out there.
I think Leicester And arsenal are quite happy. Leicester still have Morgan and Evans, and a centre half that Rodgers took to Celtic who he clearly rates. Arsenal wanted an experienced head who can play out from the back and got possibly the best possible example of that. We, on the other hand, have got a championship right back and a 5 year old as our back ups to a player who missed about 25 games through injury last year.

Correct me if I'm wrong but everyone of those players is still at their club aren't they?

I do wonder if this scenario was what happened. Iwobi came a few days ago, just after Palace said they wanted 80 million. And if Kean and Gbamin came on deadline day.

We'd be thinking, well we didn't want to overpay for Zaha, we've signed our CB cover Gbamin and we've finally signed a Lukaku replacement.

Just a thought.

Overly pessimistic in my opinion.

I can't see Morgan and Evans being their partnership, more likely that Turkish fella they signed which leaves them with Morgan as their only cover so I'm sure they'd have been after a Maguire replacement and Arsenal almost certainly would have wanted more than one.

Even saying that CB should have been the biggest priority after CF and to not get anything is definitely a failure.
