There is a psychology of bidding and auctions called sales psychology and it’s based off the more bidders you sit at a table the more likely your are to sell for close to or more than you actually wanted. The best way to bring bidders to the table is by offering an lower “obtainable for most” starting bid. Then as the bidding progresses the competitive nature in us to be better than our neighbors and improve our social standing through a purchase kicks in making us buy things we wouldn’t normally or pay a higher price that we would consider fair.

Since you aren’t getting it let’s use Bolasie for example:

For examples sake let’s say Bolasie has a buyout clause of £40m. No one will pay that but it locks him to us so that if we don’t want to sell or an offer is too low we can keep him no matter what.

We’d like to make a profit on him in the end so we would want something around £30m. We are okay with a loss but not something that will totally cripple us so we’ll say our low is £15m. To create that bidding competitiveness that we just talked about though we are going to start off the bidding at £7m to get championship level teams involved, the newly promoted prem teams, bottom of the table teams, and some teams from other leagues throughout Europe. We know Crystal Palace would like him and he’d like to play in the prem still so they are our main targets.

If bidding only progresses to £10m naturally and CP are the last ones in for him, because of the buyout clause we talked about earlier, we have no obligation to sell for that and can pull out of the bidding process and tell them our minimum goal was £15m and if you were seriously interested in buying him we will sell him to you for that price.

Side note: because Bolasie is [Poor language removed] if they say no then we’d probably still snap their hand off for the £10m but in Gomes’s case he could still be a rotation player at Barca getting 8-9 games a season and Barca could easily eat the costs allowing them to hold out on selling for a much longer time.

Mate , an auction for footballers? Clubs will have a budget and value of a player and may go slightly above it but a bidding war literally never happens. It may force clubs to act faster in bidding but won’t increase the price . Auctions find true market value and in the case of Bolasie we would get nowhere near what we paid as we overpaid by about 28m and 90k a week

But yet we have Sandro on 120k a week when how many other clubs were in for him? And auctions find the perceived market value and in the case of Bolasie that perceived value is nowhere near the actual value

I believe you've contracted Tony Fernandes Syndrome sadly.
There is a support group for TFS sufferers if you Google it you can hook up with them, it is filled with people who compulsively buy things like running machines only to leave them unloved and unused, decaying in the garage / back bedroom!

I agree it’s a strange one due to Bernard being an absolute gem of a player. Maybe if we are looking to get rid of Lookman and Onyekuru then it would be for depth in Bernard’s position.

We couldn’t drop siggy unless he is having a bad game then we can switch Bernard to number 10 role and put either on the left wing

Neres does strike me as someone we don't actually need, I mean we're not going to be paying a near transfer record fee for someone to rotate. The only way I can see is buying him is either him or richarlison plays up front.

I'm not sure if I buy the rumour tbh

Good fit. Hoffenheim have been good to watch whenever I've seen them this year. If soft arse is still there you can see them coming in for Lookman again. Wouldn't be surprised if we let him go this time. Maybe use him as leverage for Augustin?

I don't think they'll still want him in all honesty. Why do you call Sir Ralf soft arse? haha.

I said the other day it’s better to have 3 top class wide players fir 2 positions, than 2 and 3 or 4 players who aren’t good enough like Walcott, bolasie even lookman who’s hardly done anything when given a chance.

Looks like Richarlison is our fir Saturday and we we will have to play Walcott, if the result goes the wrong away v Palace that’s Europe gone. I’m not saying it will be on Walcott, but when was the last game he played well when he started.

I didn’t know if Neres is too quality, but if Brands thinks he is that’s all that matters.

Gana and Sigurdsson are both 30 in september.

It totally fits the brands model.
I think you are being a bit too simplistic about this Brands model. This is the same guy that coming off of a championship he bought Hector Moreno at age 26/27 and Andres Guardado at age 28 to stabilize his midfield. He also has NO problem selling young players if the price is right and the fit is not there.

Regardless, we need 2 more CMs/DMs beyond Gana when we sell McCarthy, Besic, and Schneiderlin, which is most likely going to happen.

Indeed, we dont know what the Brands model is yet anyway.

We know him and The Mosh have implied that we will target players under the age of 25, but that certainly doesnt mean we will sell EVERYBODY once they reach that age.

So far in this thread Zat has suggested we sell 3 of our better players, 3 first teamers in Keane, Gana and Iceland, which considering we have roughly 25 players we should sell before them is quite baffling.

We shouldnt be selling a single first team player this summer, no matter who and for how much, we need rid of LOTS of players, but none of our better players would be great.

I think he walks into their midfield. I know sissoko has had a good season, but I’m still glad he turned us down for 30mil.

Winks is a typical overhyped English player, playing for a media darling club and Dier is basically dire. And Wanyama is big powerful player, but a pretty average player imo.

Spurs’s greatest strength has always been their front 4 and a strong defence, though the defence has started to show signs of struggle this season.

I forgot to add Gomes reminds me a bit of Dembele, I think he has similar traits. who when he first signed from Fulham at a similar age struggled for consistency for a couple of years.

I don't see it to be honest with you mate. Spurs are in the semi-finals of the champions league, Gomes has had some excellent games, and some pretty poor ones. He's also completely flopped under the pressure of a big move before. I do not think sides are going to be willingly whacking 25+ million on him, particularly Spurs who have really reigned in spending.

He's done well for us and you can see he will get a lot better under this manager and this environment. I'd imagine if you asked most Spurs fans though, they'd not be desperate to put him in ahead of Sissoko or Winks.
