Indeed, we dont know what the Brands model is yet anyway.

We know him and The Mosh have implied that we will target players under the age of 25, but that certainly doesnt mean we will sell EVERYBODY once they reach that age.

So far in this thread Zat has suggested we sell 3 of our better players, 3 first teamers in Keane, Gana and Iceland, which considering we have roughly 25 players we should sell before them is quite baffling.

We shouldnt be selling a single first team player this summer, no matter who and for how much, we need rid of LOTS of players, but none of our better players would be great.

If we aren't prepared to sell players though, there is a legitimate question of where funds will come from.

I think Gana will go, I suspect an arrangement has been made and to break that would be damaging. Keane and Sigurdsson will stay unless we get a crazy offer (if someone comes in with 50+ for Keane we'd have to consider it). However I can't see us actively pushing people out of the door, and I imagine Keane is probably quite happy here.

We will learn a lot more about Brands this summer, because he has a lot more questions to answer. Better questions it must be said, but no doubt more questions. I would suggest anyone making strong statements in any direction are probably guessing a little bit. We will be guided by what Brands does this summer.

I am quite easy with whatever direction he wants to go in. I have my preference (which would be minimal sales and minimal recruitment) but happy to go with whatever Brands feels best!

I said the other day it’s better to have 3 top class wide players fir 2 positions, than 2 and 3 or 4 players who aren’t good enough like Walcott, bolasie even lookman who’s hardly done anything when given a chance.

Looks like Richarlison is our fir Saturday and we we will have to play Walcott, if the result goes the wrong away v Palace that’s Europe gone. I’m not saying it will be on Walcott, but when was the last game he played well when he started.

I didn’t know if Neres is too quality, but if Brands thinks he is that’s all that matters.

I also think that if we stick to the system we are playing now, where Sigurdsson plays almost as a 2nd striker a lot of the time, Richarlison would probably do quite well in that role too, so there'd be plenty of game time for Bernard, Richarlison, Sigurdsson and Neres between the four of them

I agree with most of what you said but Winks isn't overhyped. He's a very good player and we play much better when he isn't injured. Although he does seem to be frustratingly injury prone.

We do need new midfielders though. The annoying thing is that there's such high demand for midfielders that it's very hard to get the good ones.

I agree with that. The idea that Spurs would bomb out Gomes for Winks I just don't see. I am not Wink's biggest fan, but he's playing for a side regularly in the top 4 and in the semi finals of the European Cup.

The question then becomes what price would Spurs be willing to play for Gomes? I'm not sure they would go near the asking fee in honesty. There's an enormous amount of risk with a lad who's already flopped once at a top club.

Selling players will be important for us going forward.

Whether we like it or not if we dont improve players like Digne and Rico will be moving on, but on our terms.

Gana we could sell at a profit so it would make sense, Iceland we aint getting 45m for, so it wouldnt make sense, Keane for 50m, possibly, but selling all 3 in 1 window?

My preference is for MULTIPLE SALES, but nobody that I consider our first 11 and in fairness ive seen somebody suggesting 9 players in, which seems too many for me.

I think you are being a bit too simplistic about this Brands model. This is the same guy that coming off of a championship he bought Hector Moreno at age 26/27 and Andres Guardado at age 28 to stabilize his midfield. He also has NO problem selling young players if the price is right and the fit is not there.

Regardless, we need 2 more CMs/DMs beyond Gana when we sell McCarthy, Besic, and Schneiderlin, which is most likely going to happen.

Those two were signed for just over £3mil and £2mil respectively and sold for £5mil and £2mil. Both were 26/27.

Hardly comparable to selling 2 players 30 years old in sept for £30mil ish.

Id really question the logic of any DOF if he rejected bids of £30mil ish for two players 30 in september and £50mil for Michael Keane.

The logic is that it would likely make us worse. Again, you don't sells someone just because they are of a certain age. Gana is way too important to this team and he'd be REALLY tough to replace.

Keane for 50M would be a great deal, but again, we are lacking in CB numbers.

So you really don’t think Gomes would improve spurs’s options obviously you don’t think he would get in over winks, but surely it’s about improving.

So I suppose what you’re saying about spurs. Would be the same with Liverpool? You don’t think he would get in their midfield?

Of course you need to sell older players.

Otherwise in time their form deteriorates, they pick up more injuries and their value plummets to the level that they are unsellable on big wages.

Fast forward 2 septembers and we have 32 year olds Gana and Gylfi...then have to replace them...with no money from their sales to do so.

Or we sell them this summer...replace them and in 2 seasons time we have no issued in their positions.

“Sources in Spain claim the Catalan club want “at least £17.3m” for the midfielder, who has formed a formidable partnership with Idrissa Gueye in the Everton engine room.”

“But his actual asking price is set to be much higher as Barcelona valued him in the £40m bracket last summer and believe he has grown in value.”

“Everton have no guaranteed or mandatory option to buy Gomes for a set fee so any deal would have to be thrashed out with club and player.”

“Barcelona rated Gomes so highly when they signed him from Valencia that they inserted a release clause in his contract which is now worth £86.6m.”

Barca don’t have the obligation to sell to anyone (Even Everton with no obligation or option to buy in his loan agreement) unless someone meets the buyout clause in his contract and why would they automatically take a £20m hit on the player without trying to recupe as much as they can for the player?

Like you said that’s not how the game works.

They are trying to get more bidders to the table with the initial bid starting at £17m and what better way to jack up the price on him than to create a bidding war between 2-3 premier league clubs? And even if we were the only ones in for him they can push the price up themselves with his release clause because nowhere does it say they have to sell unless it seems fit for them.

Easy tactics to get the most they can out of a player that they believe they can get close to their money back on.
Why would clubs waste time bidding on a player who has no interest in signing for them
