Name me one player who we could get for 30 m who is as good as Gana
Please don’t say that that’s Brands job and not yours
Gueye was originally bought cheap.
So was ngolo kante .
Ndidi and doucoure as well .
They are out there .
I am not one of the experts that knows the strength and weakness of every player in every league.
But that is why we pay scouts and directors of football .

Mail saying Southampton discussing a £20mil move for Lookman
This wouldn't surprise me at all. Their manager was RB Leipzig manager when Lookman was on loan there.

As far as Lookman is concerned, we either play him or sell him. There will most likely be a sell on clause fee to pay to Charlton, but I'm sure this will be offset by the fact we won't have paid a fair chunk of all the add on fees.

It won't do much to solve our wage bill problem, but it raises some funds for the transfer kitty.

To think Koeman wanted to spend 30 mill on him, 20 on Arnautovic and 40 on Giroud.
I know what you mean but, since that time, Giroud has won both a World Cup and a Europa Cup, Sissoko has played in a Champions League final, and Arnautovic was being lauded as one of the top strikers in the Prem prior to having his head turned by yuen signs.

I don't want any of them to play for Everton either but all three, when on their game, can be fine players.

Sissoko cost his team the Champions League final and Arnautovic is being hounded out by his own fans, I’m glad we stayed away.

It's a risk though, for each of the players you've mentioned there's a Veretout or Ndong. It could pay off handsomely, it could be a disaster, and that's why people are dubious. Selling a player you know is good to replace them with someone who might be good is always a worry.

Obviously you just have to trust the people in charge to know what they're doing ultimately, whether they decide to keep him or not.

It was more the fees for them. Giroud is a fine striker (although I think he’d be terrible for Everton given our lack of pace) but paying 40 mill for a 30 year old was ridiculous for a club in our position. Equally Sissoko has had some decent form recently but that would have been another huge outlay for us. Arnautovic would have been better than any of our current strikers for sure but I think Koeman initially wanted him to play out wide. It was Moyes who really revitalised Arnautovic at West Ham by playing him through the middle.

Players have to fit the club too. Newcastle went down with a midfield pairing of Sissoko and Wijnaldum. Both have just been in the CL final. Gueye helped take Villa down. Sometimes there’s quality players who look like bad buys just because the conditions aren’t right for them. Maybe the same might be said about Keane at some point if he keeps his form up.

Very good point.
