Summer transfer window 2023

Agree. My fear, as always, is any profit we may make on the sale will not be reinvested in the team. The idea that we can sell him and bring in 4 or 5 new recruits seems a little far-fetched
I think / hope that the draining of transfer profits into the stadium should end with the MSP investment. But yeah given the Onana profit minus sell on won’t be massive it would probably be used on down payments for no more than two players. Overall even if we bring in up to 8 like last year I imagine like last year no more than 4 will involve fees.

Definitely need a midfielder or two. Kip of us when Doucoure was suspended for 3 games. Preferably one that can add goals.

Possibly 2 strikers too, with Simms out, Maupay crap, DCL perma-crocked, Cannon untested.

By need I mean immediate need for the first 11, obviously depth would be nice. Remember, for most of those games without Doucoure we also had no DC-L which compounded the issue imo. Doucoure, Onana, Gueye, Garner and even Iwobi is good enough for CM for now. Think even Young has stepped into CM a few times in recent years.

Maupay will go, the new striker will take his place in the squad with Cannon replacing Simms. Ideally this new guy can be relied on such that any DC-L availability is a bonus

Our wing options are currently Gray, who is hit and mostly miss. McNeil who is decent but has no pace and Iwobi who isn't a winger. We defo need a genuine pacey option out wide.

Which leaves a CB as the only other immediate need as Mina is gone and if we don't sign someone new we're pinning all our hopes on Branthwaite, that or hello Michael Keane.

I like him but I think you could buy one young 10-15m DM to replace, spend the rest up front, and be better off. I think we made a pretty poor deal for him so would be good to exit with a decent profit and move on.

If we kept Onana we'd need 1 CM. Sell and we need 2 CM. Wharton apparently £15mil and Scott apparently £25mil. Thats £40mil gone from any Onana fee already.

Would that put us in a better position than were in now? It depends on how each of them develops, Onana could become world class and the 2 English lads (and Garner) may become England players.

In addition we also need lets say, Gnonto, El Bilal Toure (who id use RW) and a CF.

Thats pretty close to having a new team build over 1.5 years.

It has to be north of £60m for me

£75mil+ especially as Brighton are stuck at £100mil and Chelsea £80mil.

.

Rather than sell Onana Im looking at the circa £12mil weve just made since the season ended.

Move out players such as Maupay, Iwobi, Gray, Holgate, Godfrey and Keane and there should be enough there in the pot for a decent splurge.

Although we of course need attacking players, Im looking at Onana in midfield and only seeing Garner and Gana in the mix with him. We really need at least one new midfielder and i hope were sensible enough to be pushing through on Wharton and following up the links before to Alex Scott.

Now is the time to bring at least one of those players in. Its an opportunity for us to have Onana, Garner, Scott and Wharton to complete the midfield for the long term.
See what you’re saying but it’s very ideal world. And don’t forget if you do punt three CBs and two wingers, even ones that aren’t great, you need to spend a lot of that on CBs and wingers to replace. We don’t have the squad to punt 6 fringe players to fund 2 signings.

I think the more realistic, if less palatable, option is to punt onana to fund another high potential midfielder and a quality forward.

It would be lovely if we could sell all the players we don't want and keep those assets that the big clubs are after. Unfortunately, I'm not sure this is going to happen. We will sell a couple of the six you mention but I suspect two of them will be in our starting line up against Fulham. And it's going to be very difficult to hold on to Onana if a top club come in for him. I could live with all that if I was confident there were plans in place for all eventualities. But, you know....

He’s been here a season and a half not 10 mins. He’s had a handful of decent games, that’s it.

I mean we all want him to be decent, but it’s been a really poor start to his Everton career.
He has now. But he was getting grief after a handful of games for us.

Unless players hit the ground running, we jump on their backs. Many would have seen McNeil vaulted from the club after 3 months.

Guessing a fair whack of any sales will go to paying loans and liabilities. No doubt we are paying transfers for our current squad in installments anyway, so each year we have to find that cash.

In the worst case we need a starting forward and a CB - just to be a service-able prem team.

With injuries you can see we would need a LB too - as happened towards the end of the season.

*Everton on the verge of signing Ashley Young

GrandOldTeam: WHAT WE NEED TO BE SIGNING YOUNGER PLAYERS WITH SELL ON VALUE, WE NEED TO BE LIKE BRIGHTON THE GOLDEN BEACON OF ALL FOOTBALL CLUBS

*Everton also on the verge of signing a young promising wide forward for a decent fee

GrandOldTeam: WHAT THAT IS FAR TOO MUCH, WHY ISN'T ANYONE ELSE IN FOR HIM EH? HE'S CRAP SIGN SOMEONE ELSE

Whoever we are linked with, some on this forum will criticise just to try and be edgy. It’s the default position for some, Everton can never do anything right in their eyes.

We should be trading players intelligently like other teams do: ignores the sales of Gueye Richarlison Gordon

We should be buying young players: just as long as they’re not called Patterson Branthwaite Garner Onana McNeil or Gnonto

Players in general need replacing and i forgot Gbamin, Gomes and Dele also :(

In my somewhat 'exciting' scenario we'd go into the season with:

GK: Pickford / Virginia
LB: Mykolenko / Young
CB: Branthwaite / Godfrey
CB: Tarkowski / New
RB: Patterson / Coleman
CM: Onana / Wharton / Gana
CM: Garner / Scott
LW: McNeil
ACM: Doucoure / Gnonto
RF: El Bilal / Mills
CF: Balogun / DCL / Cannon

Ins: Young / Wharton / Scott / Gnonto / El Bilal / Balogun / CB on loan

Outs: Keane / Holgate / Dele / Gomes / Gbamin / Gray / Iwobi / Maupay

Very unrealistic but at the same time we have long term foundations in place across the pitch and follow the Dyche 'transition' positive approach with skill pace and goals.

What's the actual point in this Zat, come on
