Young and Evans are decent back up. Rarely injured, both better than the backups we have, and if the younger players are struggling, will both come in and do a professional job.

It also signifies that they are focusing our money on the forward line. If they get that right this year, then they can sort the defence out next year, as we would need to replace young, evans and Coleman. We may also need to be replacing gana and doucoure.
Don't you see what you're saying? We buy a team for one year that has no future value....there is no sign that the forwards we bring on will be of better quality or younger than these defenders...then leave ourselves in an even worse position this time next year. Looking like a desperate club living from hand to mouth is the worst thing we can do now. It's too late, I know. It's happening. But this thread is going to be even more depressing in the summer of 24

I think the issue on central defenders is that after Tarks and Branthwaite the fellas we have are no good.
it’s hardly the pressing issue though is it? Despite what people say, we still have Keane, Holgate and Godfrey to play in those positions as well as Tarks and Branthwaite. That’s a lot of time and resource to sell 1 or 2 of the ‘not good crowd’ (probably well below their actual value too) and then get in suitable replacements for way less wage wise. The absolute priority on every level is the attack. I don’t mind the Young one as we also desperately needed full back cover and it was quick. We’re going into the new season with no goals - again

I’m more concerned that we seem to be after more central defenders. I know Mina has gone but his replacement is right there in Branthwaite. If we recall his loan, only to not sell him for a big fee or give him meaningful minutes then what’s the point? Just another asset who we squandered the value on
I’d be more concerned if Dyche looked at our center backs and thought Keane, Holgate and Godfrey were good enough cover for Tarkowski and Branthwaite who is young and unproven in the premier league to be honest.

We need a striker more but another solid cb option is welcome as we actually just lost Mina and Coady don’t forget.

Will be interesting to see how the new offside law changes defensive tactics. Playing a high line is going to be very risky, so will back 4's play deeper instead? Would suit older defenders with a lack of pace if they do, but its going to open up the pitch and make pressing the opposition defense a lot more difficult.

"New" offside law?

Being trialled in different leagues. Nothing changes for us

If sign new CBs without inevitably selling the ones we have (for decent money at that), then we’re back in the same position of bloated squad with bloated wages. And yes, we should and need to be looking at getting the value out of the players we sell. All English, all experienced and all have value in this market. If we add before selling it’s a problem. If we don’t add and integrate a new striker however that’s a much bigger issue

wow did not realize DCL is still some way off being match fit after like almost 2 months.
also clear statement from Stone that they are looking for a focal point to hoof it up to. That is clearly not Gray / Maupay / Elanga or Danjuma.
so hope if we get 1 or 2 wingers sorted we can make progress with a nr 9.

got Weghorst written all over it lol once El Bilal Toure is not coming off

just go and do it guys

The interesting point he made was about "quality" having McNeil and Iwobi.

I mean...ok...but i think most want Iwobi sold.

I reckon he's already agreed to come here

He had in January like

lol underrated comment ;)

Defender/midfielder can’t say I’ve heard too much of him tbh

He's wicked. But he's not a striker. So not arsed.

Didnt watch the Euros :o went on holiday :p

But the very little i know of him, I imagine he'll be first choice for Juventus next season.

Id love...actually love us to sign more Belgians who can join Onana in the full national team.

this is a fella we were constantly linked with last season

I kept saying i didnt rate him and the numbers seemed excessive. 10mil euro makes sense.

A walking red card in england.

Order of preference for me would be Gnonto > Danjuma > Elanga. Willy has the most potential and had a relatively good and exciting season last year. Danjuma has had the best performances overall but injury issues and the whole debacle last season puts me off. Elanga, though he has potential, has barely any minutes last season and has never really showed me anything to excite me much.

without sounding like a male chicken...

depends on whether left / centre / right

My wish would be;

Johnson Gnonto McNeil

Yep. No attackers allowed in opposition half. It might suit us

Id like to see deals for Maupay, Gray and Iwobi...in a dreamland but £45mil ?

£10mil Maupay
£20mil Gray (Saudis)
£15mil Iwobi

That gets us some quality.

Evans and De Winter in...would be great if we could sell Keane and Holgate...also Godfrey too if we landed both.
