We've been on this merry go round for a good long while now. The financials don't need to be better for us to change our approach. The more we behave as we have been the more difficult it becomes to attract quality prospectsI get the concern but if they are only 12 month contracts and do the job next season then if the financials are looking better next season Everton could look for more potential in the signings and players to develop.
There's sense to what you sayI get the concern but if they are only 12 month contracts and do the job next season then if the financials are looking better next season Everton could look for more potential in the signings and players to develop.
Don’t want to keep harping on about it but the flaw with that is the value of the players who will have one year less on their contracts once the year is up. Branthwaite has just had a great loan spell in Holland and we’ve had bids in for him to leave for ok money, but we can probably squeeze a bit more out and sell him now. He fits the bill for the type of defender we need now too - tall, left footed, good on the ball but can dig in a lower block. If we don’t sell, and he stays, but doesn’t play due to these 12 month older player stop gaps, then why should he want to stay here knowing he’s never given the chance? So when we are forced to sell him a year later, it’s nowhere near the fee now. It’s a long winded complaint I know, but when you’re financially screwed, we need to be maximising value. We have potential here - we need to start taking a risk on it because what’s the point.I get the concern but if they are only 12 month contracts and do the job next season then if the financials are looking better next season Everton could look for more potential in the signings and players to develop.
Yeah, good point. We've been on this merry go round for a good long while now. The financials don't need to be better for us to change our approach. The more we behave as we have been the more difficult it becomes to attract quality prospects
It’s just too easy to say ‘sell’ though isn’t it? We should be getting £10/15mil+ MINIMUM for these players in this market. How often do you see a club sell 2 players in one position and replace them both in the same window? We’re in the financial mud and need to be deliberate and considered with every move. If we practically give away Keane/Holgate then what can we spend on replacements that improve on them without seriously damaging our financial position again? I’m not against whole squad improvement obviously but we can’t do too much right now if noises are to be believed. I agree that Juve link is blag but how much of a prospect is he over Branthwaite? We have to take a risk on him and play him or cash in now whilst we can reasonably demand a higher fee

No way could we afford his food bill at half timeHe's not really old enough is he!!?

Good. Not that we're linked but he's 35 this year.
Don't want to go all Zat but our average age would become ridiculous.
Nah, we clearly have limited money. We can pick up some decent cover for free in defence. They clearly don’t think the free forwards we can get are of the same quality.Don't you see what you're saying? We buy a team for one year that has no future value....there is no sign that the forwards we bring on will be of better quality or younger than these defenders...then leave ourselves in an even worse position this time next year. Looking like a desperate club living from hand to mouth is the worst thing we can do now. It's too late, I know. It's happening. But this thread is going to be even more depressing in the summer of 24
Nah, this is not a money problem. This is a planning and attitude problemNah, we clearly have limited money. We can pick up some decent cover for free in defence. They clearly don’t think the free forwards we can get are of the same quality.
Prioritise the money. I’m sure people have said that this is the last bad year of the 3 year financial cycle and then we should have more scope next year.
Not bothered if we look like a desperate club because we are one. That’s why we have battled relegation for the last 2 seasons.
In terms of our defence, it was actually ok in regards to bottom half teams last season. And that was playing Keane for lots of it.
see more links to El Bilal Toure again. Even if we manage to purchase him soon he would need time to settle in. So if DCL may not make the Fulham game we will have the same issue without a proper focal point at the start of the season. Gray might be gone before then and Elanga for example if he comes is less familiar playing there. Any 35 year old free transfers out there lol ? Ashley Barnes lol ?
