Summer transfer window 2023

Just read that Lewis Warrington's contract expires in June 2024 and yet they've loaned him to Plymouth for the season. So basically they've let Warrington (a tackling CM who always looks to play a forward pass and would die for the club) leave for nothing as he's out of contract in June 2024. And yet they offered Davies (a CM who doesn't tackle and seldom plays a forward pass) an extension to his contract - so they clearly recognise that we need squad players for CM. At present we only have Gana (33 - but in September he'll be 34 !), Onana (seems he wants out - and no one can blame him), Garner and Doucoure (30 but 31 in January) as CMs. Two injuries or suspensions and we're in trouble having no experienced CM to come into the team. What on earth is Dyche doing in all this? If he told Thelwell we need 2 squad CM players to cover injuries and suspensions then surely Warrington wouldn't have been allowed to go out on loan until we had some players in. And today we read we are linked with a Birmingham City lad who plays CM and is 18 with a handful of games but he doesn't want to join us. I have no doubt at the end of the transfer window in a blind panic we'll give a contract to some useless, half-arsed crock at £70k a week. What a shambles.
The club have a one year option.

….all the Central strikers in all the world & Everton can’t buy one?

I just don’t believe it. Regardless of budget, it’s a big pond out there to fish in. There’ll be plenty of young strikers with genuine promise that would welcome a move to a PL club. Of course it’s difficult to identify one but that’s Thelwell’s job. El Bilal Toure just joined Atalanta for big bucks but was picked up by Almeria last season on the cheap.

I’m not suggesting it’s easy, but it’s what the DOF does, it’s his job.

NO EXCUSES, this is Thelwell’s 3rd window, JUST DO WHAT YOU GET PAID BIG BUCKS TO DO.

....don’t get this at all. A young aspirational striker would jump at the opportunity of joining a PL club. They won’t be put off by DCL, especially looking at his injury record because they know they’ll get game time. They will be eager to be first choice.

Thelwell’s problem is he only tries for strikers who are in demand. These players will look at better options than a struggling Everton.

The club need to be clever and not lazy in identifying talent. Buy hungry young players who will be worth big bucks in the future.

The issue KT has at the moment is if certain players leave the club, there is more money to play with… does he panic now and use a limited budget? Or wait for the likes of Gray, Gomes, Holgate, Maupay, Cannon to leave and buy a better player

@Eggs This is also my line of thinking above.

We have say £20-25mil but in structured perhaps unfavourable payment terms. Sell some players for actual money and this increases and perhaps becomes more favourable.

I imagine options now are players up to £15-25mil or we sell and bring in a far superior player. If thats the case we need to wait and sell.

Onana literally rejected moves in Jan. Theres been nothing to suggest "he wants out".

As others have posted Warrington is on a years option.

I do agree we need a centre mid incoming which is probably why weve been linked to Jordan today (who i cant see has declined any move) and Wharton a fortnight ago.

Iling Junior hopefully comes in with a forward and a midfielder.

What happened to our 250m transfer budget Zat?

As I told you Zat, FFP isnt our issue, cash flow is.

It would appear as tho we used all our money on bricks and mortar.

Its amazing to me that Moshiri needs us to stay in the league and yet doesnt open the floodgates cash wise.

I think (as i posted in the contract thread i opened) they may be aiming for a restart over the next 2 seasons.

Hence the stopgap signings and targeting u21s.

You do a contract thread every season and every season we add more and more rubbish, it wont ever be "fixed" until we replace the virus at this club.
