If we are being realistic mate, we're in a certain spot in the food chain, we eat after others have and as much as it pains me to say it we aren't attractive and lads will be keeping options open until late in the window.

The leverage we have is wages on rivals - but thats problematic for us as we know. History of course. But any player joining is risking being a championship player in 12 months on our current profile - that what a player and agent will be thinking.

So you are looking at players looking to take a step on the ladder, clubs below us, players in the red territory of contracts, lads not playing at clubs higher up the league or foreign players who fancy a crack at the PL. That's our market really - they will have other options to.
That's all true, and I'm sure our status contributes to the slow activity, however, even when we were European regulars this was the pattern so I'm not sure it's the whole story.

I also think that our current ownership's desire for statement signings feeds into it to, as those players, as you point out, will have other options and will want to take their time. If we scouted properly and were looking to sign players from unusual sources or the lower leagues there would be less of that too.

What can't happen (surely not a third window in a row, even with the morons that run our club) is that we play all of our August games without a recognised forward. That would be unforgivable.

A lot of our issues on this, and more broadly around recruitment has been the markets we voluntarily choose to shop in.

A lot of sales/recruitment is allocating the profile of targets you are looking to sell/buy from. We probably need to broaden, and lower our targets,or where we are buying from. More None top 5 leagues, particularly now from the championship. We would remain quite a big fish in those markets, and I think people would come.

If people are unsure, they are probably not the right players. I look at the likes of Onana, McNeil, Tarkowski and Coady this year who all helped us a lot but all wanted to come. Prior to that, I think we have been on a conveyor belt of waiting for the perfect player, and often spending too long convincing people who probably don't fancy it. When it has got tough those players have gone missing.

So some of this is about identifying the right areas to recruit from, and having some realism about where we are.

I do t mind selling Pickford if the deal is right, but as Ferguson famously said of Real Madrid one time, I wouldn’t sell them a virus.

£50mil for a 29 year old and i dont care where he goes.

What was it Dyche said? He wants players to add "power" ?

So 'big' players...im guessing not technical youngsters like Alex Scott or the like.

Wouldn’t take 50 for Pickford. Two years in a row he’s saved us 100 plus. 50 might be fair market value for him but he’s worth more than that to us.

Big fan of Pickford. But hes 29 and there needs to be a new team built.

I'd sell him at £50mil bring in either https://www.transfermarkt.com/bart-verbruggen/profil/spieler/565093 or https://www.transfermarkt.com/giorgi-mamardashvili/profil/spieler/502676

Move on a few more like Keane, Holgate and Maupay and go big on 2 u23 aged forward players and a couple of loans/cheap deals.

I get the logic but I just think he’s become a leader and talisman of this team and like I say that makes him worth more to us than another team might pay. Plus this past season more than ever I think the relegation spots were decided on goalkeeping, in a league which just keeps improving in quality I think goalkeeping just gets more and more important.

Why do some fans want us to sell our best player?

Because our best players generate the most money, and as you may have seen we are brassed for cash plus they’re the best players of the 4th worst team in The premier league. Not exactly the boast of the century.

Thelwell has shown he is not particularly effective at the first team side of things whilst he is making changes behind the scenes, and while I agree he should get flak for signings like Maupay, and even possibly the deal which saw Nkounkou leave on what seems to be a poor deal, I am not sure he would have the final say on the timing of when purchase go through.

As far as I see it, there is the accounting period where we have had to walk a tightrope due to P&S concerns (possibly with rumoured PL oversight) and then he‘s possibly had to deal with the negotiation tactic master, BK. Apart from one or two seasons Everton has always been slow to sign players and that pre dated Thelwell, which is the reason for my doubt on his culpability last season as regards speed of signings.
Maybe so. But I think we have some limited scope this season so I'm expecting him to pull his finger out and get results.

Lloris saying he knows he has 1 year left but wants a new challenge.

I hope Spurs come in with £50mil for Pickford.
I say this again. You are asking for relegation. How many times Pickford saved us in the past 2 seasons?

Did you say we should have gone for the Soton keeper for £25m as the replacement? You want a player because he is 19 not because of his ability.
