Summer transfer window 2023

I was thinking about why we let Cody go. My thoughts are the fee would go on the current year's ffp (Reason Richarlison went when he did, not in July). Also we have plenty of central defenders and the £4.5 million might be the difference between getting another player or not.

I wouldn't be surprised if we go back for him later in the window, when players have left.

I think we are just waiting for Sheffield united to offer £2m, have that accepted and then we match it.

If we have to sell more than Onana: and if there's any interest from United or Spurs, I'd sell Pickford to them and get Kelleher in for under half the cash raised and then get another forward in to go with the one we'll use the Onana money for.

These are the type of bold moves we need now to ensure we start the new season in August fully prepared.

I think it’s probably more due to the fact that Coady is a player who wants to play every game. He barely missed any for Wolves. He left Liverpool early in his career to get regular game time. He probably realised Dyche wants to play a back 4 and he’s not first choice CB, he’s probably not even third, so he will probably look for a club that can guarantee him playing time for the last few seasons of his career.

Although only one match, he looked awful against Southampton last weekend.

I honestly don’t see Onana going for much if at all more than we paid for him yet tbh.

We dont agree on Begovic, fine. I believe he has gone anyway. How do we fund developing a better side?
Unfortunately, it will have to be by moving on an asset with potential- e.g. Onana and selling on a couple of players we don't want, presumably for miniscule sums/getting wages off books through loans.

We're not going to have a lot of money to spend full-stop. So clever investment is the key. In normal (not horrorshow Everton circumstances) we should be looking to move players on who are Pickford's age for good fees. I just don't think we can do it now. Get rid of any more of our few good players and we significantly improve our chances of relegation and, let's face it, we have massively got away with it the last two years.

Pickford is the last player I would sell.
Me too mate. But unfortunately, he’s our last sellable player (should we still need to sell).

It’s all well and good saying “let’s sell Keane and Holgate instead”. But other teams actually need to want to buy these players. And no other team will match the wages we pay them, or even cough up enough money to satisfy any financial issues that need paying.

We need a star upfront (or two). Similar to when we went out and got Richarlison. Like we did with Lukaku before that and then Yakubu before that.

We need a player that can carry the attacking threat for the team and lift the rest of the squad.

I wouldn’t be adverse to going to some of those young City attacking players who are not going to see the first team with Haaland Alvarez etc. there and see if they can be tempted by regular first team football.

Same with the lads at Chelsea and Arsenal. Could we get one of Broja Marquinhos Balogun etc. Even Nketiah if he’s going to find himself behind Jesus Trossard and any other new striker they buy.

We need to be going to any top young talent who isn’t playing and seeing which of them would swap that position for practically guaranteed first team PL football every week for a team with a track record of getting attacking players big moves.

That’s a great plan A but if we know of these, then other teams will so it would be a competitive environment. I think we have tried this in drips and drabs in previous summers. If Plan A doesn’t work we appear to be stumped. The question is what is the transfer strategy is plan A does not work. How do we then reset and go to plan B and what does plan B look like in terms of player profile.
