Summer transfer window 2023

Really? He’s got no pace, doesn’t pick out killer passes and scores a decent free kick once in a while. He’s just another ineffective number 10 like Siggy was.
He plays 6 or 8 mate (usually 8) so swap the stats or whatever from a 10 to deeper player and he looks pretty impressive.

Also worth mentioning that while im a big believer in signing young players, they do need to be developed.

Development imo isnt just on the coaching side but also on the pitch -- helped by experience.

Man Utd had all the great young players come through like Giggs, Beckham with others slightly older like Keane. They also had experienced players to guide them and provide stability.

The same when Wenger joined Arsenal. He focused on young players but they had an experienced keeper and back 4 etc to guide them along. Also of course that allowed the players to develop knowing the experienced players provided stability and consistency.

If we can hold onto them then the likes of Patterson and Branthwaite have Tarkowski (and perhaps Coady) to guide them.

In the middle Garner and Onana have Gana but hes soon 34 so a Ward-Prowse providing 7/10 level performances each week and leadership would make a lot of sense.

Digne on loan, Harvey Barnes, some 6ft7 goliath no one has ever heard of to play up too and James Ward Prowse. That’ll be our window.

If McNeil moved centrally then he'd be a cracking signing. 2 years on his deal but im sure plenty of teams would be after him and he wouldnt come cheap even if they go down.

I would say if we could sell Gray then someone like Samuel Edozie (who Southampton signed from City) may be more likely as cheap backup to McNeil.

Good player Barnes - id bite your hand for his 12 goals a season, he and Ward Prowse would be huge enabling signings - don't think we will sign either tbh mate.

* If we stay in the league.
I think we could have a chance at both to be honest. I basically use the metric of “would they play for Spurs”, if yes then they’re above us but with the nature of the league if they can’t get in Spurs side I don’t see why a Palace, Wolves or Fulham side would be that much more appealing than us if that makes sense.

I’d have both down as squad players for that Spurs sort of level but I think they’d start for anyone below it, think if we pursued them we’d be able to compete with any other team to sign them.

But how much would they cost in transfer fees?

Then of course we would still at least need a centre forward on top.

Maybe mate, i could see either at Spurs or Newcastle and if not maybe Villa, WHU - whether we can punch it out with those clubs to attract them - is debatable mate - wed be throwing a lot of good money at it to beat them out - like we did with Onana. Unlikely in my opinion - but you never know.

We still need to be in the league of course!

Could see JWP going to West Ham once they get the Rice money.

That's a good shout mate! ;)

Id say both would have a pain in their faces with relegation battles - so that might influence their next moves - like it or not if we survive - we will be marked down by players as possible relegation strugglers.

I'd guess £40m would get the pair, maybe at a push £50m if things are competitive. Don't think Southampton would stand in JWP's way and put a mad price on him, as for Barnes I think Leicester are in big financial trouble if they're down, there'll be an absolute fire sale going on.

I'm kinda basing this off of us probably selling Onana too of course, for probably £60m+ like has been rumoured, I think that along with Gordon being sold for massive profit as well as contracts expiring and things like that should mean that we have room to maneuver in the summer. I don't know if it's been said somewhere but I swear I've seen that we're basically away from the worst of the financial 3 year rotation thing and we won't be monitored as strictly for spending. Also with the alledged outgoing of Moshiri and co. I think if there's a new regime they'll want to spend what they can to solidify their investment in the club.

When you look at the top sides they have incredible pace spread all over the team.
We have signed too many good footballers with no real pace , if you want to start to build a new team then pace is an absolute must have.

I believe that Southampton indicated to Spurs that they wouldn't let JWP go for less than £75 million. Whether that stance has changed with relegation I don't know but my impression was that their finances did not require a fire sale
