But Chambers in 28, probably on good wages, and would not get into our team in midfield. He is worse than Gana, by some distance.

So we would be buying a 28 year old, presumably for reasonable money (I doubt he will be free) with no sell on value, who makes us worse if he plays. If would be a ridiculous signing, and a repetition of the stupidity we have shown in the market previously.
I think all PL footballers are on good wages but I believe he is on about 45k which isn't exactly breaking the bank. I would much prefer him to Gana, obviously in his day Gana was better but he has lost it now, but that is just my opinion on the two of them. I suggested him as a backup, not a first team starter and I do think he would be very reliable and would be a good squad player for a few years while u guys sort of the financial side of things. I agree with the idea of bringing in potential with sell on value but I also believe there needs to be a mix with experience. At the price and wages for Chambers I think he is a good buy for lots of PL clubs. I like him and would be happy for him to stay at Villa but the manager doesn't like him so that means he will likely leave

I'll try and take each bit of it as it comes.

Gana is miles miles better than Chambers mate. His numbers at what he does are still elite. There were some stats recently around ball recovery and retention, and hes Rodri-esque in terms of PL midfielders. He has limitations, but at doing what you want an DM to do he remains elite. He is nowhere near Gana level.

As for a back up player, presumably we would have to pay a fee? Plus 50k p/w. This works out pretty expensive. Like the fee isnt going to be a few hundred thousand is it, you are definitely going to want a couple of million at least? It is a lot of cash for a guy who is just going into the squad (at best).

We need to sort the financial side of things, by buying younger players, on lower wages, who gain value. Is Chambers going to do that, at age 28, when he isnt good enough to get into the team?

Like I me it nicely but for most of last season you were as bad as us, and he couldnt get near your team. He played 2 games for you. If hes not good enough for you, hes not going to be good enough for us either, and at 28 hes never going to be good enough. If he was a decent PL player he would be getting games.

It would be like me pitching you to sign Michael Keane. It would just be a stupid move for Aston Villa.

You’re fine. I think it’s more that you’re pushing Chambers than your user name. However, I would swap him for Keane, Holgate, and Godfrey so it’s not exactly that outlandish. Keep going. Just ignore the negativity. Unless of course you are on a wind up haha.
I am not pushing Chambers, it was a suggestion for discussion but discussion isn't always possible with some people.

BTW, I am not on the wind up. As I have posted on here many times, Everton is a team I like. I have followed Everton for a very long time but at some stage when I was a little kid something made me support Villa and that has stuck. It doesn't stop me from enjoying Everton games and following them.

Can’t see anyone buying Iwobi, even the Saudis!

gray might be tempted. Not likely to have a top team / team playing in Europe so the chance to earn ridiculous money might do it

10/10 for the attempt to bait me on an Everton forum :drunk:

Bar 2 or 3 the whole lot need selling to the Saudi's or anyone daft enough to buy them.

Iwobi should be 1st out the door.
We’re on our way to becoming Forest but with less money and with more incompetence. If Iwobi is a sub rather than a regular, it’s the right progress for this summer.

Probably something to do with experience or something.

Also because it's Sean Dyche.
He started signing older players when the Chairman kept hold of the money as he was selling the club. Collins, Tarks, Westwood, Barnes, Wood, Cornet, Lowton, Pope, Keane, Vydra, Roberts, Brownhill, Taylor, Gibson, Gray, Gudmundsson, Hendrick, Brady, were all under 26 when he signed them. He got lucky with McNeil as, due to injuries, he had to play him and he took his chance.
