We can almost certainly get Gyokeres for what we'd receive for Simms + Maupay, regardless of how awful we all know they both are. I reckon Maupay could fetch about 7-8m, and Simms 5-6m. He's the best striker in the UK outside of the Premier League, a no-brainer of a transfer that would essentially lower our wages by offloading two, using the money received to buy Gyokeres and giving him a nice salary increase that is still substantially lower than those two combined. Obviously we won't get him, but it makes complete sense to go in for him.

Honestly not sure on the salary part. Simms is surely on next to nothing.

Good luck to him if that's the case.

He might do a job here but either way it's not going to get me excited or disappointed.
Sporting would be a nice, fun move for him but Portugal is a much lower level than the PL and, having already failed at one PL club maybe he just doesn’t have the mentality to want to go back to the highest level. Whatever the case is, if Portugal is where he wants to play I’m happy enough to let him get on with it.

Very harsh to say he failed at Brighton, he was out on loan for most of his time there as a young player!

Although Maupay was ahead of him so that's not good...

….watched Gyokeres quite a bit last season because of our reported interest & I genuinely think he’ll struggle in the top flight. He’s hard working and genuine but he lacks the raw physicality and quality to trouble top flight defenders.

For the monies being quoted there has to be much better options abroad than the Coventry City lad.

i really hope the links to Gyokeres are wide of the mark.

I get that but I think gray, coady and mina all played a part last season and we're already short in numbers. We know what we're like with injuries. No way we're bringing in many. We're weaker by losing these 3 so we'll need to replace them and add the other 4 or so people think we need. Can't see that happening
We signed 7 last summer not including keepers. We will sign a similar number Imo. Gray didn’t get many starts under dyche, even with no DCL and poor back up strikers. Mina can never be relied on. And Coady also didn’t start many and probably doesn’t suit 442.

There will be money in the pot and hopefully With sales it will be a lot more. And you always have loan and free’s. We’d be better off having a new centre back to partner Tarkowski and Branthwaite in the mix than having Mina and coady.

Same with gray, we need a starting wide player, not someone sitting on the bench who offers little, yes his price of 1.7mil you can’t expect miracles. But still not that difficult to get better if we can get 15mil for him and then McNeil or iwobi are on the bench. If iwobi gets sold then you buy to replace him.

Signed for them at 20, left permanently 3 years later without playing a game. At a club where like you say for most of that period they had no great striking options, they were still willing to let him out on loan and ultimately to sell. I would say that probably is a failure, they obviously didn’t like what they saw. His trajectory at the same age is very similar to Simms who at 22 a lot of people are already saying is unlikely to be PL standard.

He’s doubtless improved a lot and *maybe* could do it now in the PL but maybe if he fancies Portugal he’s not really up for that battle.

I like the lad and think he could do well in the PL, but it is far from a foregone conclusion, so we have to be careful about overpaying for these players.

We should be looking for players outside of the PL, but if they don't have experience of playing in a top league, then we really can't be overpaying for them.

Be fantastic if even 1 young player is given a chance past the last 10 min to be fair.

But it won't happen.

I've said it before here - if anyone wants to dig and vault me: we'll sign some utter crap because "the manager trusts him" and "experience" and be in the same fighting situation.
Onana,Garner, Patterson and McNeill all played regularly last season, none of them are ancient.
