Thing is, the lad is 17 years old, born in 2006. What has he seen of Everton during his lifetime? A few top 10 finishes, a couple of relegation battles, battered in two Europa League seasons, no cup final appearances.

Put that up against what Chelsea have done in the same time frame.

We can say “if you know your history” as much as we like, but it’s quickly becoming ancient history. This generation of young players only know us as a mediocre mid-table club.

The strategy for this summer seems to just be survival. Who can give us just enough to make it to 17th, get the move to BMD and then try and sell. I don’t see any other logic for what is looking like another depressing transfer window and poor poor year to come.

I would accept asling as the club fix the other areas we need. Really wanted better but if young gets us 2 cf and wide players then ok, maybe the davies going has made the xlub go for him
