I personally dont care where liverpool finish. I support everton and want us to finish as high up the league as possible. Our next obstacle is villa, and them losing today helps us stay in touch with them. Gives us something to push for instead of taking our foot of the gas and next thing west ham are on our coat tails. Great result today.

We're not going to get fourth, but I'd take a 5th place finish over a Liverpool defeat any day. Okay, it puts them nearer to United, but that's just something I'll deal with. United will still win the league.

I really wished I could be as confident as that, Neb. I know they have their game in hand and the extra point, but I think they've looked a jaded outfit of late (I thought they rode their luck against Inter, tbh). Fighting on all those fronts and playing in Japan - it must be getting to them physically and mentally now, even though they have a big squad there's been core players consistently used. I think Ferguson's f**ked up here by not just sticking kids and reserves in the domestic cups. You should never doubt Ferguson I know. Time will tell, I suppose.

Its up to United to get the League, it is theirs to lose, so yes, i want the best for us. The higher the league place the more money.

Time will tell.

If Liverpool win the league on goal difference or by 1 point, and we finish 6th a good few points of 5th, you would probably have wanted Villa to get a result today.

But in the same instance, it Utd win the league and we finish above Villa by 1 point, today would have been a good result.

Unfortunately, given our poor performances lately, I am just hoping we can keep 6th.

Someone remember to bump this thread!

Thanks for these words of wisdom.(y):P

Tbh mate, 5th is nowhere. Doesn't register. OK, for a nailed on Europa League place rather than having to face some Bulgarian team made up of rent collectors and elastoplast salesman in a qualifier in July it makes 'a difference'. 4th spot I can understand.

Liverpool winning the league will be a nightmare every bit as bad as 'the miracle of Istanbul'. <shudders> :o

Dave, last week I was confident that United would walk it. But my god, Liverpool seem to be on the up at just the right time. You've got to hand it to them, they're on fire at the moment. Even worse, Liverpool's GD is now superior to United's. In saying that, I still think United have enough in them to take the crown. It's still theirs to throw away.

Let's hope so anyway ...

I think in the league it's fair to say the pressure has been off them and they've let rip to close that 7 point gap. It'll be interesting to see how they react to being tipped again as contenders. This is possibly the area United have it over them in spades. Been there and done it in many tight races. There's no better man than SAF to have in the dugout at this time of the year.

While you have Alex Ferguson, I wouldn't expect him to allow your side to lose it.

If I was a Liverpool fan, I'll be relishing the day he retires.

Nev, I think if you'd have had the chance to prepare for that match with Liverpool at OT and won it the title would have been over - I dont think that would have been bulls**t then, tbh.

The horrible feeling I have is that United's players are stretched - mentally as much as anything. I cant believe Fergie played quality players in, what are for United, non-priority tournaments. I know you went on that unbeaten run, but in the league you never looked dominant - winning by the odd goal too. In fact, this all this could come down to goal difference. Never in a million years would I have bet on Liverpool to outscore United at this stage of the season.

Your spot on with that mate

However when I think of the position we were in I would bite your hand off for a 1 point lead with a game in hand
