The referee correctly applied the Law in this instance. There may well be an inconsistency in that a clear goalscoring opportunity was prevented, but as the Law stands a booking is the sanction applied in such a case. Your first paragraph hit the nail on the head concerning the players' lack of form. It's no secret that Baines hasn't been 100% fit for weeks, and it's also known that Gibson needs an operation, while Osman was also clearly not at his best. Apparently Anichebe was taken off because he was injured too.

If that's the law then fair enough, the ref did the right thing. It just doesn't seem right that illegally stopping the ball going in using you hands isn't deemed a red card for goalkeepers. The first thing that came to my mind was Ian Turner getting sent off for using his hands outside the area against Blackburn a few years ago when Ruddy had to come on for his first appearance. I don't see how that was worse than what their keeper did today.

Anyway I'm sure that point has been argued to death. Koff Everton.

Nothing left to play for now, so put the peripheral players in. I expect any right minded manager who wants to stick around and build on the foundations to be giving game time to Duffy, Oviedo, Barkley, McAleny, Stones, Kennedy etc

No chance, we've still got Europa league to play for. I'm personally not arsed at all where we finish now but that's what moye's will be thinking.

it would mean us winning every match from now mate, I cant see that with games away to the RS and Chelsea.

Think we needed to win today to give us that margin for failure in one of those games sadly its over IMO

just want a big shape up in the summer

Out
Felliani £25 mil
Jelavic £5 mil
Heitinga £2 mil
Gueye £1 mil

In
1x ST
2x CM
1x CAM
1x CB

If they win two and draw two that would take them to 66 points. We'd need three wins and a draw to match them. It's not out of the question.

I think you could be right about transfers. With Mucha, Hitzlsperger and Neville almost certainly going plus maybe a few of the youngsters (Duffy, Vellios, Bidwell, McAleny, Junior) we could need 7 or 8 players in just to keep up the numbers.

thing is before january the season was gone for me we were ****e, anything after january was a bonus including the FA cup,

this season the start of the season we were on fire, the fact of us ****ig it up against the poor teams like norwich and reading have meant we will finish without european football and the wigan result was the most shocking thing Ive seen in a while.

6th or 15th doesnt make a difference if you've not got Europa/CL or a cup

That's completely untrue. There is a big difference in prize money between 6th and 15th, and since we are not exactly awash with cash, I would say our league position is very important financially.

the money issue aside their is no 6th placed trophy, for me swansea have had a much more successful season as they have a cup and Europa league football, thats depressing considering how good we have been only the manc clubs have lost less which is why its been the most dissapointing season for me.

I can take it if we are ****e but we arnt and should be in 4th right now had we not ****ed about all season.

1. 6 odd draws in a row
2. moyes not committing
3. felli talking of leaving
4. no good ST

all been a dissapointment

I'm honestly not sure I can take another year of moyes/kenwright. Waiting to see if one of them will leave before I buy a season ticket.

6th placed trophy though mate thats miles better than the 7th placed trophy ffs!

*WE ARE PLUCKY LITTLE EVERTON FFS! ALWAYS HAVE BEEN ALWAYS WILL BE!!!

*according to sky and our manager and chairman and some fans

Well, it seems we are back to plucky old Everton doing better than we should dare hope for the season.

As for the Mackems, I just admire that PdC has instilled a completely more positive mentality than was there with MON and has delivered two huge wins in a row.

If DM goes, at least I hope we would not be looking for MON - much more of the same!!

The team all around was AWFUL. Pienaar was the worst player on the pitch. I felt like Howard could've saved that shot from Sessegnon, we were beyond sloppy in possession. Funny, this is the last glimpse of Everton I'll have before I leave for Marine Boot Camp, wonderful.

The lack of depth can be self inflicted. Had Oviedo, Duffy, Barkley and Vellios been given games that they deserve the squad depth would be less of an issue. Not enough rotation, you can play an in form regular squad but sooner or later they're figured out, as is the case with Bainaar and Fellaini

Absolutely this. Oviedo in for Peinaar has been obvious for weeks, and we can't get better with Osman in the team.

I can't see why Vellios would want to stay. He must see Jela's body language month after month - he's scared stiff - and
wonder why he's here. Heitinga has more bad days than good and yet Duffy can't even get on as a sub'.

As I've said before, our problem isn't the size of the squad, it's the fact that we don't bloody use it.

My only worry is that we will take our foot off the gas (If that's possible!). 4th & 5th is out of reach in my opinion. My only worry is we will finish 7th, if the ****e win their game in hand and beat us they go above us! I`m worried, for next season, possibly without Fellaini and Moyes!

Watching it over again on MOTD just now, and Alan Hansen stated that we should have had two penalties - one for Rose dragging down Jelavic and one for Rose kicking Naismith in the back of the legs after the ball had gone. I don't agree about the Jelavic one because it looked to me as if Jela was looking for it: it was as soft as Arsenal's one against Norwich last week, but watching the replay a couple times I can't see any reason why the Naismith one wasn't straight red and penalty. Shearer of course disagreed, describing the Naismith / Rose incident as nothing more than a "coming together", but Shearer is a moron and a hypocrite. When even Alan Hansen, who hates us with a passion, says we should have had a penalty, there's probably something in it.

None of this however detracts from the fact that we played with such languid disinterest that we didn't deserve to win; Howard, Distin, Coleman, Baines and (to a lesser extent) Heitinga were solid at the back - the replay shows that the Heitinga yellow was incorrect because the striker runs into his back. Coleman and Baines tried to get forward but had no real support as Pienaar was woeful and Mirallas simply doesn't stay on the right very often. But other than Baines and coleman, we had very little in the way of a threat. Felli and Mirallas gave it a shot on the odd occasion they got the ball, and they were constantly trying to get it, but otherwise we had nowt.

Gibson was anonymous, Osman looked as if he was still knackered or possibly even carrying a knock and Pienaar put in loads of effort but his execution of basic skills was way below the required standard. As a result we lumped it forward to Anichebe WAAAAAY too often. On the odd occasion we put the ball into Mirallas' or Fellaini's feet with them heading forward we actually looked good, but we simply don't do it enough. Eery fast break was neutered by Osman or Pienaar coming to a halt, turning 360 degrees and then playing it back to Distin, who then gave it to Howard who would in turn launch it downfield. This is NOT percentage football, it's being so lacking in invention that we'd rather give the ball to them and hope they make a mistake. The stats on MOTD say we had over 60% of the possession, but I'd guess half of that was Heitinga, Distin and Howard passing it back and forth waiting for someone to make a run or offer themselves up in space.

As for their goal: with the benefit of the replays I believe that the Baines pass was no more at fault than Osman suddenly deciding to stop running, turn 90 degrees to the left and expecting Baines to read that. Baines put the ball a yard ahead of Osman to run on to, but as he played it Osman decided that running forward onto a ball shows far too much attacking intent. We ask Baines to get forward at every opportunity and the first step in him doing that is playing an infield pass to a CM, but that CM needs to continue the forward momentum of the move otherwise we do not force the opposition to move, and Baines will simply exhaust himself bombing forward but not receiving return passes.

In conclusion: We need some creative midfielders who are happy with the ball at their feet and willing, and able, to take on a man and beat him. We need this WAY more than we need a striker, because this will improve the quality and quantity of balls played into our strikers. Jelavic was a God last season and I'd give him until Christmas to rediscover that, but we need some better midfielders to help him.

It's galling if we should have had a pen or two because the likes of Arsenal do seem to get that helping hand when they need it. However I think we have missed a trick by not using fringe players just a little bit more. In the same way that vic has not suddenly become the answer to all our striking problems he was more than capable of giving 4/5good performances to just keep the momentum going when plan A (jelavic) was not working. Vellios, Oviedo, Barkley, even stones in at full back and Coleman push up wide right for a half or 60 mins to get in a winning position in a game and then if needed bring on the experienced guy to close the game might have left a bit more energy in the tank for the main first pick players.
I can understand coaxing performances out of players with niggles like Gibson (Baines?) but we could have freshened things up a bit at least for parts of games.
Anyway if spurs lose we still have a chance. Rule 1 in life it's never over until it's over. Rule 2 in life, Evertonians never give up!! Fingers crossed
