The problem is, they've been surviving on the parachute payments etc. They were in trouble even if they finished mid-table; relegation is probably end of the road.

A cautionary tale.

I'm well aware that if they were anymore goosed, they'd be burning the stadium down for the insurance and the owner walking away whistling hoping no one could smell petrol on him.

It's a strange one; the Sunderland fans on here were saying no chance but the (extremely well written) big fanzines were saying it was almost inevitable.

That game against Bolton is massive. Weird thing though - Sunderland's away form recently has been ok, which suggests that the home fans may perhaps be a significant contributing factor to the toxicity.

Make of that what you will.

Dunno though, we've got no debt for the first time in ages and could possibly get into Europe. Difficult to draw parallels.
