Feels like the end of a cycle to me that began with Morgan going. This team seems to be trying to continue his approach that led to a coherent and powerful team that prided itself on being able to 'chase down anything'. Watching this team there is none of the confidence they can actually do it though, not sure if Morgan's influence was so important or just subtle player changes (loss of Morgan, Roy, Stokes from the batting line-up), form etc.
The bottom line is each time we faced a top 5 world team in this world cup we lost. Beating WI was the only real victory along the way, but even then you would broadly expect that result more times than not.
I think difficult for Buttler to stay as Captain (even though I really like him), there being no obvious replacement may buy him time though. And they must drop this bat second at all costs approach, we are not the high-scoring team of yesteryear any more and this world cup has shown that spending the first bowling power play trying to work out the pitch and how to bowl on it can be so costly and gives the team bowling second a big advantage.
