Tennis !

In tennis (like basketball), I think it’s difficult to compare players from the different eras. Contemporary players have so many advantages when it comes to nutrition, fitness which have dramatically lengthened their careers.

No one ever had Federer's vision before. The man revolutionized the game.

I find it's best to compare across eras on the unusual traits. Borg was relentless, McEnroe was aggression personified, Connors was brash, Lendl was a machine, Chang was a human backstop, and so forth. Tennis, like golf, reveals character and personality.

As far as the GOAT goes, Martina has it on numbers and probably always will. All those doubles Slams, my word. You could run with Federer on impact on the game. You could run with Djokovic for somehow welding the best parts of Federer and Nadal to his native service return. You could run with King on social impact.

I think that's about it for who's in the frame, and that's no slight on the great runs of Graf and Laver. There is only one undisputed crown in tennis history, and that is the King of Clay. Nadal owns that surface.

The anti-British fume around her on social media is hilarious… not Brit Canadian !!!
I’m enjoying prodding a few jealous Canadians
Oddly enough the Romanian and Chinese who are her gene pool are totally accepting …. Which is hilarious as this makes the Canada shout absolutely hypocritical

Raducanu sacked her coach. Seems harsh, but don't know the ins and outs of how tennis coaching works.

Hope she doesn't become an unlikeable athlete, one of her attributes was being humble and down to earth.

seems harsh and even unfair.. but guess there is no room for sentimentality when you want to be the best in the world.. still…

If I have read the story on BBC correctly, he was only hired for the summer tournaments in the US.

Quite a few quotes from her but none thanking him stick out considering what she achieved. Hope it's just been omitted fr the article.

Emma got a bit of a tanking there..

No one will notice like, as bbc didn’t cover it.

I kind of knew beforehand this would probably happen. All the parties, distractions, new coach and having a marker on her head would likely create the perfect storm to be underwhelming.

It's not an issue but she needs to be competitive again by the Australian open else the carefree tennis she played to win the US open might be replaced with one driven by fear and doubt.

Emma definitely didn't play with the same verve as in US Open. Her serve was off for a start. The fist pumping was missing. Her opponent was very strong apart from a blip early in the second set. Emma failed to take full advantage of it.

But she seems philosophical about the match as you'd expect.
