They love their country, and after the [Poor language removed] the last guy put them through, they had every right to disown them. I envy the American's, allowed to show pride for their nations achievements.

Yeah they are. But those who I have met overseas are generally southerners, brummies, or people from Leicestershire way. The last one because I got verbally abused by a Leicester fan in Ibiza cos I had my Everton top on. They weren't even in the Premier league at the time - dickheads.

But that's the English, they are pricks. But I'm still proud to be English - not because of them but because of other people who are English. The likes of Rowan Atkinson, Tony Robinson, JK Rowling, Terry Pratchett, John Lennon, Attenboroughs, and so on, you get where I am going.

Every country has it's blerts, even the US do. Ireland do, Scotland, France, Spain, Aussies, everyone.

You can't help those who avoid education or culture. But there not going to stop me forgetting about where I come from and what my nation has achieved in the past 500 years.

I do take pride in people who write, Tony Robinson is someone I massively admire. Funny, and his thirst for historical information on England is admirable and one I share.

Also, the way he stepped up and said that speech for Terry Pratchett the other night on this program about Right to Die and stuff, it was heart wrenching.

That makes me proud to be English. There not all blerts in this country mate. Tabloid journalism and soda pop telly will tell you otherwise.

You just have to try and block out the idiots and see the culture and the good in this nation - it does exist.

I think the captaincy used to have an important use back in the day but I think it's ceremonial more than anything now.
