I quite like Alan Johnson. But I cant see him being bothered with all the grief. He was in Government for what, 10 years or so? Seems to have a pretty nice and quiet way of life now, so cant see him wanting to get back into all the nonsense that top level politics brings you.

....probably right although ego is a part of all politicians and the very real chance of becoming PM might be too much too resist. I recall Johnson leaving because his wife became involved with one of his security staff but I might have that wrong.

I think this is a pretty fair summary

I say just be happy with what you have, long as I can afford to get by and have my health and family it's all that matters.

Too many people chasing the £££ 35k+ salarys and company cars so they can go abroad twice a year and when they reach that point they realise they have sacrificed alot in life to get there

Surprised at the support for Boris here to be honest.

The problem with Boris is that Ken and Labour twice made the mistake of suggesting that if he got in London would be a disaster zone within about a week; when that didnt happen loads of people thought he isnt that bad.

What Livingstone should have done is to correctly point out how nearly everyone would end up being priced out of even quite average accomodation (such as this £1.3 million studio flat in Victoria, ffs), of how the LAS and LFB would gradually be destroyed, of how the Met would be increasingly militarized (water cannon included) and what the consequences would be in filling the City with a load of politically connected foriegners who have suspiciously large amounts of income.

Can Boris be blamed for the property market? Granted, it isn't an exhaustive sample, but I haven't heard anyone blaming him here really.

As an aside, I was at the Health 2.0 conference yesterday. Some fascinating projects going on around the world. Pretty inspiring. I think Bruce Keogh is speaking today. Let me know if you'd like me to heckle him with anything.

I wouldn't say 35k is a big salary. Certainly doesn't get you far down here, but I broadly support your point that money often doesn't equate to happiness, especially if you're not doing work you enjoy and get fulfillment from.

If you're a red rosette robot, of course he can. Because back when Livingstone was in charge, Kensington was filled with tube drivers and nurses. It's all part of the agenda Bruce - deny the past and just blame the Tories for everything.

Bit of another CON mistake last nights debate on EU law last night they are a pathetic joke the speaker had to defer the motion as DC promised a vote on one subject then combined five! DC the alleged great leader rushed there in a white tie from his dinner -farcical!

Same is true of the Tories though. They spent an awful lot of time blaming the previous administration and absolving themselves of anything. Then it's nobody's fault and nobody's accountable.
