You in one of those jobs/industries that once you work your passage for a few years, the earnings go north pretty quick?

Depends on which route I take. I could do a phd and go academically and earn a wedge when I'm out the other side, or stay on the industrial side of it and build up slower.

It's the prices of things that vary regionally.

For example, @Bruce Wayne was surprised at how much less a round of drinks was in a pub up here (The Crown, Lime Street) as opposed to where he lives.

This is why devolving of some powers is in order, in my opinion. Different strokes for different folks' in effect.

You can buy a decent size two bedroom house with a garage and a good sized garden for 40 grand in durham tbf.

Money goes a lot further, here.

Blimey. Really? I thought Durham was like a property hotspot what with the University and commutable to Edinburgh, (ish).

£40k would not get a mobile home down here, and Bristol hasnt really got any geographic advantages than the North East if you think about it. Like you cant fly from Bristol to London for example, so its quicker to get from Newcastle or that other little airport up there to London than it is from here.

And the football/rugby/cricket is mince as well.

So it must be all about Cheddar Cheese.

Whaat? Are you in a time warp in the 1980s?

Have a look yourself, http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property...000&radius=15.0&googleAnalyticsChannel=buying. That's 825 properties within 15 miles of my house for 50 grand or less.

The pit villages around durham are dying. Noone has any jobs, noone is buying houses. You want a house in one of the old pit villages and you can basically pay anything and they'll accept.

House two doors down went for 40 grand last year.
