Has long as you can chuck it is good enough, chuck it hard at them at the nuts, the head anywhere. Just chuck it at them with interest. (y)

I was also a spinner, a bit of a crappy one mind but cant be no worse than what that lot have at the moment. I am not a bad wicket keeper myself. (y)

Kept today, 3 catches and a stumping :).

Its going to take abit of rain from snatching this one from us me thinks!

And I'm amazed that England are 200+ players ahead of us in the England cap stakes. We started at the same time didn't we?

Aussies, particulary in recent (last 20 odd) years have had a more settled side. England have tried so many players in the last few years. Given them one test, then looked at others. Part of the problem I think. You need a settled group of players to be able to perfom at a consistent standard. Players need more than one chance to prove themselves, and grow in confidence.

This is the most transitional period for the Aussies that i've seen, and they are still streets ahead of us.

But then again England were way above 400 in the Beefy/Lamb days.

Contrasting selection policies I guess.

And the decision to play the first test to a small crowd in Wales? Good idea?

England are a poor side, they've gone down the pan steadily since 2005,results dont lie sadly.

Today showed our bowling department up for what it is,poor at best the spinners arent that good tbh,Monty could be yet but at the moment he looks lost,Swann is the same sort of journeyman spinner that i've seen countless times over the years,Vic Marks,Mike Watkinson to name but 2 he doesnt really have the guile of someone like John Emburey our last great off spinner.

Harmison? umm not sure about him he just doesnt look interested in bowling unless he can be arsed to do so,thats unacceptable in my eyes, but if (and its a big if) we're at 1-1 by the 4th test (unlikely i know) i would give him some raw meat and send him at them, other than thta i'd leave well enough alone.

Jimmy Anderson plodded on well enough but was poor..

Young Broad looked tired and really he needs a rest,he's a talent but the rate they're playing him they will burn him out, sned him off to a sunny island with a couple of nubile wenches and let him have a bit of fun.

Flintoff looked a bit rusty but was ok,in the very near future though we will have to look to leaving him behind, sad but true he's a liabilty injury wise as i say very sad.

So it doesnt leave much in the cupboard bowling wise,i would have liked to have seen young Rashid play instead of Monty and i'd have gone for Onions instead of Swann as he bowled well enough against a very poor west indies side back in may (though i aint sure if that was any sort of real test playing that team).

This isnt a great aussie team but its a bloody good side nontheless, its going to be a long summer ahead me thinks, now if only the bloody goons at Sky can keep it real and stop talking about this england as if they where world beaters and stop going on about bloody 2005 and how well the boyzzz did back then and took the only sane member of that commentary team (Atherton) more realistic view on things.

Unfortunately, pretty much exactly how it is, I agree on all points.

Our bowling has been a weakness for years, now our batsmen don't know how to play test cricket. The run rate hit 7 an over at one point in the first innings - KP, Freddie etc just don't change their game to suit the five day format.

just started after lunch and england are 109 for 5 thats still 130 runs behind and make the aussies bat again. looks like the rain is gonna stay away so looks like we'll have to bat it out till the end.. its not looking good.

Love the fullstop mate.

But I dont understand the rules. Do we have to beat their score in order to draw?? I realise we have no hope of winning, but what happens if time runs out and we are still batting and we havent reached past the Aussie score?

To win Australia must have the most runs on the board after two innings I think. If England don't reach the Australian score after this innings (the second) then there is no point in Australia batting again...and I think they gotta do it in 5 days.

if were still batting today it will end in a draw even if we don't beat there score, as bundy says its 5days and today is the last day so just need to survive with the batters we have left.
