The Ashes 2023

This has been by far the poorest performance in a home ashes since 2001

Regardless of the style of play, they have played some absolutely abysmal cricket at times. Can't field properly and refuse to bat time at the crease. How do they expect to win test matches against a top side when no one is willing to bat time. Any wonder the bowlers are constantly tired as well.

Root and Bairstow needed to take responsibility up front and from there it was always a mountain to climb.

It's so painful - because in terms of cricketing ability we've shown we're actually good enough. But they've beaten us in every marginal facet of the game:
- catching
- decision making
- situational awareness
- humility - knowing when to reign it in and when to be aggressive

2019 was pretty poor bar Stokes' magic

They had some batting issues but won 2 matches and were mainly competitive other than getting beaten heavily at Lords i think?

The basics have just been abysmal in this series. It makes you wonder about the preparation as much as anything. How can good cricketers made so many basic mistakes and drop so many catches. How can they get the selections so wrong so often.

Very frustrating

Weirdly though it's the basics that have cost us. If it wasn't for the dropped easy catches and lazy extras given away we'd be ahead in the series.

Thank God for helmets.

I suspect that using them has caused many players to ignore proper technique to play a short ball.

Can you imagine Cowdery and Close playing without a helmet ducking their head into a rising ball

Well remember Derek Randall in the Centenary Test doffing his cap to Dennis Lillee as a bouncer skimmed his cap
