Of course players of the calibre of Root, Pope, Brook etc are good enough to score 1s and 2s to the men in the deep and let the short ones at that awkward height go by. I'm not good enough to play short bowling but they are good enough.

England collapsed playing reckless cricket when they had a chance to take the game from Australia. Its not controversial to say their batting was extremely poor given the quality and ability of the players.

Genuinely don't think they're mentally strong enough, they have the technique, but not the application.
