The atmosphere at Goodison

I cannot understand why so many of you mock the fans who actually WANT TO SUPPORT EVERTON, do us all a favor and have a your day out at B&Q, I'm sure you'd be just as happy there.

People go the match for all different reasons though.

Just because somebody wants to stand up and sing all game doesn't make them a better fan than somebody who doesn't want to do that.

I also think a small portion of the ground standing up and singing the same songs for 90 minutes does absolutely nothing for the atmosphere and when it's needed Goodison can still be great.

I mean, can anyone really be that bothered getting all pepped up for games like Brighton at home? Does anyone in the premier league generate a good atmosphere for these type of games?

When was the last time Goodison had a good atmosphere in your opinion mate? I'm sincerely curious to hear your answer.

Been a long time, but that's because we've been [Poor language removed] for the majority of that time though. I remember the ground was absolutely bouncing when we were beating Arsenal 2-0 at halftime, first game of the second Martinez season.

Once the team starts playing well and challenging for places the atmosphere will pick up. I just don't think it's something that can be manufactured amongst the fans

Yes! and if not then why go? I don't know you so I won't comment on you, but that sounds like a very modern supporters point of view.

Because I like watching Everton play and I can get behind my team without standing and singing songs for 90 minutes.

You trying to tell me you'll be there at games like Brighton at home standing up singing for 90 minutes then? It doesn't happen and never will.

Maybe it's an indication of the modern fan (I've been going the match for 20 years so wouldn't consider myself a modern fan), but I see people a lot older than myself who do nothing but moan and groan all game, so it's more of a collective issue.

I have been operating a crowdometer hidden under my seat for the past few seasons. It measure crowd noise. Friends at 5 other PL clubs have done the same. We ranked 3rd out of the 5 clubs which were Arsenal, the RS, Man City, West Ham and us. If Crystal Place had a crowdometer working they would come top because their behind goal lot cheer from start to finish being mainly cockney thickos.

Because I don't go to the game to sing. I go to games and watch the match, sometimes i'm well up for it and singing, chanting, shouting positively and negatively, sometimes I can't really bring myself to be that bothered so I'm quite passive. I follow Everton up and down this country and others, so don't tell me i'm not a proper fan, I just don't need someone to tell me how I should act at a game. You can act like a lower league fan 'enjoying their day out' in an FA Cup 3rd round game if you want, but that sort of stuff makes me cringe in all honesty.

In my opinion what's killed atmospheres everywhere is the advent of the glass ceiling. It's genuinely difficult to get yourself worked up about a home game against Southampton when you know that whether you win lose or draw, you're going to finish 8th.

I know people who sit in silence. I know people who shout a lot. I know people who do a bit of both. Sort of typical of the average crowd anywhere, which makes this a nugatory, useless discussion between those who love to say we are the worst and those who don't agree.

You said don't tell you how to act at the game, I agree with that.
Then you make out those who want to act different are like lower league fans and make you cringe? So it's alright for you to criticise others but no one can criticise you?

Not at all. If you actually read what I said rather than paraphrasing, it says ‘you can act... if you want’. I’m not telling people they’re right or wrong, or that they can’t do it, simply pointing out why I won’t be joining in.
