The atmosphere at Goodison

Poor deluded fool I am, but I go to games , genuinely thinking.

This is the day, we'll get off to a flyer, and 3-0 up after 20 minutes, and a display of brilliant, exciting, attacking football.

Goodison will be deafening and rocking like days of olde.

Then the ref blows the whistle and we kick off.

REALITY SETS IN= zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Look before you do anything drastic and final, I will find you the number of your local Samaritans.

We all moan about players being out of form, not playing for the shirt, not putting the effort in etc.

How about the fans putting some effort in, all we hear is just before they kick off Everton Everton Everton ev ver ton. Then that’s it then, until a couple of mis timed tackles by the other team, then Seamus puts a tackle in and we hear 60 grand a couple of times and that’s ye lot.
Been awful for some time to be honest.

Oh yes if we’re lucky we hear it’s a grand old team one verse.

In the fans defense though we have had Sam’s and Ronald’s team to shout for.

Maybe things will change

Not at all. If you actually read what I said rather than paraphrasing, it says ‘you can act... if you want’. I’m not telling people they’re right or wrong, or that they can’t do it, simply pointing out why I won’t be joining in.
I did read it all, and you are making out that those who don't act like you are cringy and are like lower league fans, as if you are better than someone who enjoys singing at the match.

Also what is wrong with lower league fans? Its not their fault their local team is in the lower leagues is it? Plus of course they're going to be up for a third round tie at a Premier a league club, it's a big game for them. We're up for big games as well. So what you're saying is that fans who support their local club and get excited at big games are cringy?

OK so you read it, but you’re not capable of understanding, I see now.

Nothing wrong with lower league fans at all, hence my comparison being them ‘enjoying their day out in an fa Cup 3rd round game’. The inference being that fans who go to the game fully expecting to get thrashed but just glad to have the experience are likely to create much more of a carnival atmosphere than those who are going to the game expecting to win and/or be entertained.

Again, I didn’t suggest I was better than anyone, simply that certain behaviour makes me cringe. I don’t take it back, if I’m ever at an Everton game where we start singing ‘we’re going to win 6-5’ when 5-0 down i’ll Be ashamed of my fellow blues, and I’m not sorry if that offends you.

The poster I was replying to suggested there was no point in going to the game if you didn’t want to sing etc, I was just saying that wasn’t my take on it, but I quite clearly said if that’s what you want to do then fine. I’m well capable of understanding that we’re not all the same you see.

I’ve been to football games where Everton aren’t playing, to rugby games or the darts. At those I’ve been more than happy to have a few drinks and sing/cheer/whatever throughout, because I’m just having a laugh. At goodison though, I’m emotionally invested in the game. At times I’m too nervous to sing, at times I feel like I’ve been punched in the stomach, and at times I’m just too pissed off with them to get behind them.

I love my wife but I don’t need to tell her 10,000 times a day in order for her to function properly. If a bunch of millionaires need that sort of reassurance from me to produce their best, they’re going to be sorely disappointed.

I understood your post completely, I just think its hypocritical narrow minded rubbish. If you don't my reply was appropriate still, then you have poorly written your post. You are inferring that Everton who want to so sing more in normal games are the lower league fans you have just described. So going back to when I was on the terraces of the Gwladys Street and also games when stood in its seats and you had prolonged spells of singing in average games was that cringy too? I don't care if people don't want to sing, I do not like people having a go at those who do

My tongue was firmly in cheek mate.

last season was truly awful, got outsung every home game... was to be expected tho.

our away fans are up there with the best in the league tho.

Has to be said the atmosphere sounded really good on TV yesterday. Helped that the team was piling on the pressure most of the second half so it was easy for the crowd to get behind them.

I always think it is subdued on TV. Probably due to the colourful language. It's the second everton game in a row I've seen on TV where they've apologised for swearing caught on the mics.

I think that’s down to the position of the television gantry. It’s right next to the traveling supporters so you never get the full effect of the crowd. And of course it’s Palace so there’s going to be some verbal dustups between the two sets of fans.
