Well you can't change an idiots opinion , no matter how hard you try . I know a fella who , to this day , doesn't think Graeme Sharp was any good

But it's not about opinions, not really.

They use nebulous terms, refuse to be drawn in to specifics. If your fella said, I don't rate Graeme Sharp because he doesn't work hard enough off the ball, for example, that's an opinion, it can be discussed, you can see for yourself and make your own conclusion if they have seen something you've missed or if they've overlooked something you consider more important.

I said in an earlier post, these guys would prefer to be right than to see the club succeed. So, they use vague terms, then claim that's what they meant all along. But, that's why we're all here.
