The David Moyes debate

hes never beaten man utd, arsenal, liverpool or chelsea away in 10 years as well as the no trophy thing, i can only think of the time rosicky scored in the final minute at the emirates where we genuinly came close. I would love to see an everton team that goes out and tries to win every single game, not try and nick a point every time. We have still lost games 6-1, 7-1 etc. even with his defensive mind aswell it must be noted

0 wins in over 40 away games at Old Trafford, Emirates/Highbury, Stamford Bridge and Anfield is pretty shocking.

I think we should make a cheeky approach to jamie carragher, i can see him retiring at liverpool at the end of the season and he has made no secret about the fact that he wants to go into management. His attitude may rub off on some of our lads and they might start to go out with a bit of his winning mentality,,, i know he was an ex blue fan when he was a kid and then turned red but I think he could start to feel the love of everton football club once more and be a huge positive for us.

Its stick or twist from our perspective. I think with Moyes in charge, we'll never be in danger of relegation, and we'll always be top half-midtable. He has his imperfections as a manager, many of which we've discussed, but stability is not one of his failings i'll grant him that. He doesn't suffer fools, he manages a productive 'team' atmosphere and he has a knack of getting consistency out of players. He's not a risk-taker and this club will never be in masses of trouble as we've seen elsewhere, because of that.

But then do you achieve ambition without risk, whether it is financial or tactical?

By the same token, I don't feel we'll ever win silverware or challenge the top 4/6 with Moyes for that reason. And that has as much to do with our prominent financial predicament as it has to do with Moyes tactical ineptness, naivety and failure to proactively change things when we all so desperately need him to. 2009 aside, we've been pish in the cups, and we lack the strength in depth to compete in Europe if we even managed to qualify for it.

With a new mindset, a fresh approach from a different manager, we could push on as a team, break into the top 6 and get the regular European money that would see us grow. Moyes is no 'one in a million'. He's done a sterling job but we have identified 5 or 6 managers in England alone, in this very thread, that have displayed similar achievements working to a budget. The flipside is that the loss of that stability could also upset the applecart and prompt a decline.

Stick or twist?. Knee-jerks aside, i'm leaning more toward twist.[/QUOTE ]

These 5 or 6 managers people are mentioning who've done at best ok in the premier league for 1 season, I can promise every fan on this forum that the likes of Newcastle will not be where they are now for the next 7 seasons because Mike Ashley won't spend the money and to stay there consistently you need to keep spending and spending, as for Paul Lambert, Martinez and Brendon Rodgers let's see where there clubs are in 3/4 years because I've seen all these clubs come up before playing the football then 2 years later you don't hear from them again, Like I say there's manager's out there who I'd swap Moyes for tomorrow, just not the ones we could attract. Wenger, Redknapp, Mourinho, and different coaches in Spain like Bilbao's coach would loose Moyes yes but be careful what you wish for lads getting rid of him whilst Kenwright's still about could come back to bite us very hard on the bum

If Moyes did go (which I would certainly not like) then I think the sort of manager we need is Brendan Rodgers, I like his strategies, such as quality passing, quick build up play, attacking football, counter attacking, etc. Also, he has been quite creative in the transfer market with a low budget (something he would be used to at Everton). However, I think Moyes is the only man to keep us this high up in the league, at the moment anyway.

Still Moyes-debating! Ive said it before and I will say it again Paulo Di Canio is worth a shot, I have not seen a more passionate manager and his style of attacking, passing on the ground and free flowing football is excellent. He will be a Premier League manager in the not too distant future I am sure of it.

i live in swansea and watch them occasionally, their build up play is more patient rather than quick though and this is with pace in their team. He would fail here like he did at reading because we dont have the right personnel to fit his strategies, which was his problem at reading, but not as swansea(because they started that philosophy a few years before). I do like the idea of lambert or di canio though, their respective teams dont play as much football on the ground stuff as swansea, would be more suitable to us
