The Dead Thread

.....great school. My family went from way back but sadly it's no longer there. Not sure of your Dads age but I'm 59 and I have nothing but happy memories. I presume he lived around Kensington, I was off Everton Rd but the walk was worth it.
My dads 78 now mate, born and bred in Doddridge street, dont know if you remember it? On the site of the hospital apparently. Just spoke to my dad, told me a few of his teachers names. I know its a long shot but do you remember any of these? A Mrs. Qualtrough, Mr. "Spike" Jones and the headmaster, Mr. Newsham?

Mrs Qualtrough sounds like a right bitch, maths was she?

Haha thats exactly what i said, and he confirmed it. Bit handy with her ruler

Kids today would not believe the punishments dished out back then.

Ruler across the palm. Trainer and/or cane on the arse. Cane on the palm.

One maths teacher threw one of them massive blackboard erasers at me once. Like with real force.

Thought nothing to it.

Warren Mitchell was the opposite of Alf Garnett in real life.

He was of North London Jewish origin (Labour supporter I think) and a big Spuds fan - far from the East End Hammers racist Tory bigot that he played.

RIP

My next door neighbours a high school history teacher, she often tells me the way some of the pupils speak to her, unbelievable. Then she tells the parents and they do the same. Bring back the cane, and national service ( now im too old to do it myself obviously)..

My primary school teacher, Mrs Gannon, would regularly throw board dusters at kids, and on several occasions, handfuls of drawing pins. PRIMARY SCHOOL. And I'm only 35, this was the mid 80s!
