The Dead Thread

….former LFC player, Max Thompson has died aged 66. At one time he held the record for the Reds youngest debutant:

Max and I were teamates for many seasons. A tall, languid player, we played for Liverpool Schoolboys together for 2 years then both signed for the Reds at about the same time. He moved onto Swansea with the likes of Colin Irwin & was recently on TV against the Toffees at Goodison in one of those old re-runs. I remember Max scoring a left footed volley that might have been Goal of the Month.

in recent times he lived near me in Zig Zag Rd so I would stop and chat with him. Last time was probably about 12 months ago & I feared he wasn’t in the best of health.

Glengarry Glen Ross is a particular favbourite of mine starring him, also Little Miss Sunshine.

A true actor.
Rewatched Glengarry Glen Ross only last week and was thinking that Arkin always brings something to the table, even little roles like in the Rocketeer. Some actors have just got it.

The speech he gives his son when his business doesn't work in little miss sunshine is a great moment

He's so easily led by Ed Harris' character in that film, some of his dialogue is just repetition of what Harris says, but he beautifully portrays a downtrodden salesman who just isn't going to catch a break no matter what.

So many great performances in that though. Jack Lemmon probably steals it to be fair.
