The Dead Thread

Bobby Moore and him were the benchmark for modern defenders.

…..England were arguably a better side in that glorious 1970 World Cup. Sir Alf Ramsey took Bobby Charlton off when he thought the game was won against W Germany and that released the shackles on Beckenbauer who turned that game around. He was a Rolls Royce of a footballer, supremely elegant and ooozing quality.

Really sad to hear of Beckenbauer passing over , one of my favourite players of all time and I’ve hardly seen any footage of him… just the bits I’ve seen he oozed class…. Head and shoulders above everybody else. One of them players who always seemed to have loads of time on the ball, but he was also tough as old boots and wasn’t afraid to mix it up when required.

RIP X

RIP Franz. I did see you play briefly as a young kid, but my father told me all about you and he saw you play at Goodison. They do not make footballers like you any more, even if you played in your later stages of life you would make VVD look like Per Kroldrup.

And he called us 'animals' after we beat Bayern Munich at Goodison in the semi final of the Cup Winners Cup in1985. We did knock them about a bit though - Gray, Reid, and that second half tackle by Radcliffe!!!
