James Chance, saxophonist and singer of the Contortions, who helped start the No Wave movement in New York City, has died. He was 71.

Punk guy from our salad days and almost an exact contemporary to yours truly. His whole point was that you didn't need to be able to make music right to "play saxophone", and he would throw down to prove it. Not on my playlist, but RIP dude. Part of the Lydia Lunch stable of punkishness. Not my genre.

RIP Willie Mays. He was a childhood icon for millions of us over here, and embodied effortless perfection at his sport and true class in his life. He is on the shortest of lists for the best baseball player of all time.

He made it to 93. I'm 71, and this happened when I was still clutching my binky. (I eventually put it down. Honest I did.)
