The Everton Board Thread 2014/15

Is it time for change?

  • I'm happy with the way thing are. Kenwright and the Board should stay.

  • Kenwright and the board need to go. We need change.

I've mentioned this site in the past but it's been a while...

If anyone wants an unbiased financial look at what is happening with Everton's accounts (and those of other clubs) then SwissRamble is an excellent site. His pieces on Everton:
http://swissramble.blogspot.co.at/search/label/Everton

Basically those details show if not for the TV money, we would have been sunk to be fair though many other clubs would also have been in a very bad way.

It makes me wonder why people don't see this as being more important. The board has added nothing to Everton since they got their seat. Commercial revenue has not only been stagnant, adjusted with inflation it's probably WORSE than ten years ago.

The state of today's bench.

@TheEvertonHub: Subs: Howard, Oviedo, Cleverley, Browning, McAleny, Robinson, Naismith, Barkley, Pennington, Ledson, Dowell. #EFC v Hearts

And when you consider 3 of the starting 11 are supposedly on the way out.

Anyone who clicked back the board should hang their head in shame.

I think a lot of people are in the 'Better the devil you know' situation with regards to Bill Kenwright & co. People fear the Leeds scenario and feel that's what could happen to Everton without giving credence to the opportunity of being a Chelsea or Man City type of take over. The thing is we only have one constant....Bill Kenwright & co equals probable PL status and improbable success and having to sell our better players because we are not big or good enough to keep them. We are treading water and have been for year after year and this will not change unless something happens. I am now resenting Kenwright more and more after each empty season because the man is simply not up to the job. I simply cannot believe no one has shown interest in our club so I can only assume that the asking price is extortionate and BK will not let go unless he receives a massive profit.

It seems like it's pretty much everyday that you see something like this (whether it be on twitter, facebook or an everton forum)

Note that it's the replies as much as the initial comment i'm talking about.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons for Evertonian's to be disillusioned with the board but when people latch on to absolutely EVERYTHING as being a hammer to try to hit them with... it just looks... well embarrassing.

People on that particular tweet are fuming over the fact that we've spend so much less than the teams that we compete with and in another series i was looking at people whinging that championship clubs have higher net spend than us over the last 4 years..... why the hell does this matter?

Look at Liverpool's squad change between this year and last year.... have they improved by what you would consider to be ~£80m.... honestly, no they haven't. Does that ~£4m that we've spent represent the quality of Cleverley and Deulofeu? No it really doesn't. The club know they can't compete financially with the richest clubs so they've invested heavily in our you academies and training facilities... for me it looks like they're trying to build a stronger club as opposed to a stronger team and I think we're about to see the benefits of this. I look at those figures and our net spend over the last number of years and I think it's really astute business... how much the team has improved since 2004 with practically no spend.

This is the same as the fume that fans had over Arsenals merchandise tent being 3 times the size of ours in Singapore. Arsenal's fan base there is absolutely enormous! This is like complaining that Arsenal have a bigger club store in London, than Everton have in London.

Essentially, if Evertonians want to be annoyed at the board and want them out then they should stick to the reasons that actually make sense. Right now, every few days I see Evertonians actually complaining about the board not taking the TV Money and just pissing it up against the wall so that we can save face when compared to the rich clubs.

I wish people would just grow up.

Please note, this isn't directed at anyone in particular (except maybe that guy who runs SOS1878....), I'm just getting frustrated at some of the more childish reasons being used to attack the board.

Invested heavily in training facilities??? Quite the opposite in my eyes.

You say if people want to have a go at the board then they should stick to reasons that actually make sense

Then you go on to say that the club has invested heavily in training facilities, well its quite literally the opposite, in fact its quite literally double the opposite. This board has sold 2 training grounds and now we lease Finch Farm, I don't think its actually a bad deal financially wise to lease Finch Farm but when you're professing accuracy you have to abide by the same rules yourself.

The main issue evertonians out in singapore had with the merchandising tent was that the people behind the Everton counter had arsenal shirts on yet you couldnt even buy the Everton shirt there. Once again if you're going to say stick to reasons that actually make sense then it would help if you were accurate in the first place.

That's fair enough, but not really the point that I'm making above.
Net Transfer spend isn't a league table.... our squad has improved enormously over the last decade... quite a lot more than teams that have spent more than 20 times what we have.... how is that a negative point for the board?

People just look at things like this as 'bragging' rights. Oh it's disgraceful that Liverpool can spend more than us or Arsenal have more support in Singapore. Really think people need to get a grip (again please don't take this as an attack on you... not my intention whatsoever).

Don't worry, people tend to forget we pay quite a bit more wages compared to some other clubs.

We will be second to bottom now, Norwich have bought Robbie Brady. Expect more fume over the next few days

RE Training facilities, I was speaking specifically about the investment in accommodation on the grounds that was spoken about as being what the TV money was being spent on last year.

RE Singapore, I was speaking specifically about peoples reaction to this photograph (attached).

Apologies for not being explicit in the original post, Honestly thought people would know what I was getting at. If I was actually writing a piece about it I would've referenced everything that I was talking about but I'm actually in work saw more complaints pop up on my phone and it just got my goat.

That's it exactly mate... but look Bill is like a Disney villain at this stage. Anytime, I ever say anything about this you get people attacking you for defending him and the board... when all I'm actually saying is "let's not be ridiculous when complaining about the board".

how much do you think the accommodation cost to build!?!? It will have been mid 6 figures at most so thats crazy to say thats why we haven't spent money.

Also its clear as day in that picture what shirts the staff behind our counter have on, thats why i saw a lot of people fuming.

Wages:
http://swissramble.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/everton-blue-sky-mining.html
Everton’s wage bill was up 10% (£6 million) to £69 million (2013 £63 million), but the wages to turnover ratio fell from 73% to a respectable 58% following the high revenue growth. The ratio would be even lower if the club had not outsourced its retail and catering business. Everton’s ability to outperform their financial resources is further emphasised by their relatively low wage bill, which was only the 10th highest in the Premier League in 2012/13, even behind QPR and Fulham. To place it into context, it is less than a third of the two Manchester clubs and less than half of Arsenal, Chelsea and (probably) Liverpool.

I would presume that us, Villa, Newcastle, Stoke, Sunderland, West Ham, Swansea and Southampton will all now be pretty much identical.

Ah c'mon, we weren't building a 3 bedroom house for our youth team.
And everything I saw about that photo was "small club mentality"... "not even trying to compete with the big boys" etc etc.

Anyway, that's pretty much exactly what I'm saying 4 Singaporeans selling Everton jerseys while wearing Arsenal Jersey's.... KENWRIGHT AND ELSTONE OUT!!!! People absolutely adore trolling Everton fans these days because our reactions are so out of proportion it's actually almost funny... almost

What was the solution here anyway? Send the staff of Everton One out to Singapore for a few days to sell some jerseys... sure you'd probably spend more on travel than you'd make on sales. Sure I suppose we could've refused to play our games unless the organisers made the staff wear what we wanted.
