I think Elstone pretty much runs the club
I don't, but even if you'd accept that the club owners are strange enough to let him, how does this explain the shambles before he was employed ?

I think Elstone pretty much runs the club
Stumbled across this before (start at the bottom): http://toffeeweb.com/season/97-98/diary/full_diary.htm
Couldn't help but see some parallels to this summer...
Failed bids (Ravanelli, Sforza, etc. / Shaqiri and well, take your pick)
Underwhelming signings
Mooted ground moves
Demonstrations against the chairman
Kit debacles
It's almost like we've turned the clock back 20 years.
Seeing a club like Stoke and their growth over the past 10 years or so really is an eye opener
It's not like they've spent oodles of money. They got a new stadium, brought in Pulis to steady them as a top division regular, brought in a more forward thinking manager in Hughes and then backed him in the transfer market
Our board brought in Moyes to steady the ship, but didn't sort the stadium issue out, brought in the more forward thinking manager in Martinez but now they're not backing him in the window
#Fume
we are being totally shafted by our own board here.
Elstone has already said that there is no money (see the WHP article) and that getting a loan is dodgy.
So in order to get money and despite what Martinez has been told (that we dont need to sell) they need to sell to purchase. Hence the transfer involving Stones.
All that does is to undermine the manager.
Martinez has stated consistently we do not need to sell to buy, he's also said specifically the Stones is not for sale.
Elstone's references to loans related to WHP not the usual funding arrangements agreed in recent years with Vibrac which incidentally should be significantly less than in previous years.
Based on the clubs public announcements it is wrong to say we need to sell to buy.
No chance pal billy liar has been looking 24/7 for an investor for 16 years now.So we don't want a Billionaire we want someone with 'a plan'...
That's largely a nonsense imo, as any plan will require capital, as the stadium issue is the prime problem facing the club, so merely having 'a plan' means jack.
We need someone who's going to invest their hard earned cash, so let's stop kidding ourselves that it's anything other.
Replacing the current lot with an equally financially hamstrung owner who had a bagful of credible 'plans' but knack all cash to back them up, wouldn't solve our problems in the slightest.
We need a wealthy investor who's prepared to fund the club in the short to medium turn.

Mind you i am not sure which planet he has been looking on.
