The Everton/Goodison Footprint

I'm not sure tbh.

It ought to be, though. It's just so blindingly obvious as the best location that it'd be hard to believe it hasn't been considered.

No idea is it applies in this case, but in Bristol a huge expanse of park/playing fields were created by folk who grew rich when Bristol boomed on Sherry, Slaves, and Tobacco. And they were protected from any development, of any sort, pretty much forever.

Like a gift to the City and its future generations. Could be similar here maybe?

Might be the case here. Seems a fantastic location that I can't believe it's been overlooked.

I'd thought about that; land held in perpetuity and all that...But AFAIK Billy Collins was a fella from 'Scottie' who organised local grass-roots footie. IIRC the pitches are council-owned and named after him, rather than Mr Collins being any sort of benefactor in terms of land.

I'm sure some of the locals might take a fair bit of persuading, mind. Equally, I'm sure they'd appreciate the regeneration to their area (Along with 'Project Jennifer' just down the road) a new Stadium would bring...

Once again, the Collins playing fields on Commercial/Lambeth/Stanley Roads is the ONLY site we should be considering if we're to move from GP.

I simply cannot emphasise enough just how ideal that site is....To the exclusion of everywhere else - apart from Goodison. Shove WHP, or stonebridge lane or wherever...

From this link you can see the footprint of it in comparison to Goodison, it's proximity to the nearest railway stations, the city centre, and the waterfront.

Think you and me are on the same wavelength here. I have been advocating this site for years. You could even build a bigger stand on the Stanley Road Side and the Lambeth Road end as a feature ie you'd get a great view from up there.

You could replace the lost football pitches by donating Goodison for that very purpose. A very fitting memorial.

Aye. Make the stands for the Commercial Rd & Gt Mersey St (Or Latham St - depending on exactly where the stadium is being built & it's orientation) sides slightly lower for some cracking river views in the daytime & views of the city centre - especially for night fixtures!

I've been looking on Google Maps on Satellite view and if you right click you can drop some markers for distances and so measure the size of the land that we currently have which is around 150 x 200m if trying to maintain a rectangular shape. The actual is about 230x150x200x150 with Goodison rd the longest side.
I did this so as to then compare the footprint of other stadiums that are in existence, mainly because my arl fella went to The Bernabeu a few years ago & said that from the outside it doesnt seem that big and when approaching you dont really realise its there until its right in front of you.
So, I did similar footprint measures with a few stadiums as a comparison, it does seem that we have a bit of a problem with whats available width wise but have whats seeming to be a 'standard' length of approx 200m. Goodison footprint as approx 177 x 116 using a rectangle but 150 at widest point of Bullens to Main Stand.

here are some results....

Bernabeu 211 x 200, San Siro almost the same

Juventus 170 x 200

Dortmund 187 x 200

Mestalla 192 x 150

any other suggestions to measure whilst I'm at it ?
Are you the surveyor everyone is going on about?

Track is behind the open end

sorry, the opposite end has a track as well between the canal and stadium

I understand you are just using this as a example, but ill be honest, I think the ground is ugly. Would much rather have a new stadium build, fresh start and all that, funny really as we all aim for larger stadiums, ticket prices also rise meaning less fans can afford to go, might end up with 55000 seater stadiums housing 5 stag parties, the directors and corporates throwing lots of white powder into the air for fun £££ lollollol

I'd pay more for a ticket if it ment i was getting 'white powder' thrown over me, i'd have 100's of baggies trying to catch the stuff, be hell of a weekend that.

I think it was mentioned by someone else with regard to a road or rather train track under the stand so I just threw the measurements in.

was just something I'd always wondered about ever since my arl fella reckoned that the Bernabeu was almost inconspicuous from outside and actually said that he reckoned the footprint of it was probably no bigger than ours. The stands look like you'd need ropes to get up & sherpas.
