Having said that, on my first ever trip to the USA! USA! USA! I was pulled into a room for a good hour at Orlando airport by some overzealous border officer who was most interested in the Cuban stamp in my passport - and whether I was a communist..

That wasn't lost on me either. I will say though, I went into the match not really caring who won, I'm not the biggest fan of Messi. Absolutely incredible, just didn't have the resiliency it seems in games when things don't go his way. However, watching the celebrations, I was happy for him.

US immigration is probably the least pleasant one I can remember going through TBF

I’m a huge Messi fan, and genuinely delighted for him - but there has been a funny smell surrounding this tournament since the moment it was announced, and it didn’t go away.

I don’t feel like we’ve had a proper World Cup since Brazil in 2014.

I have visited many places but the border police in the UK and Canada have always been pleasant. US customs treats me like a criminal.
