Well if that's the case, we must give FIFA huge credit for landing a World Cup in Qatar which meant the relevant changes were made to the practice, and that enabled better working conditions. A country can always change for the better and this is case and point.

Best? Well yes. It's officially fact that this was the best WC.

I think it was great. Thats all that matters, to me.

The Best? Leave that evaluation to virgins and that Infant.

But, but, but............................ FIFA and the Qatari regime said that every seat was occupied from 1 hour before each match until 1 hour after and they never, ever tell porkies.

Yeah, there was plenty of moonshine about how many were at the early games, some figures given exceeded the capacity. But imo, the actual event was pretty good. Maybe the absence of any significant European fans added to that? Dunno. But loved it.

No, the vast majority of empty seats were in what you'd call the prawn sandwich zone.

I'd wager a lot of them went to Govt employees who generally couldn't be bothered with it. Those that did attend did the standard early departure to avoid the gridlock surrounding the stadia.

It was less noticeable during the knockout phase once the excitement ramped up (and they released a whole glut of previously withheld tickets to Qatari locals and expat residents) but a few group games where embarrassing. (Made even worse by the massaged numbers quoted)

I'm with Roydo, it was very enjoyable. The best? It's impossible to say a world cup was 'The Best. '

That's like saying I make the world best cup of tea because I make it exactly how I like it.

Not able to disagree with a single word of that.

Only eight countries have won the World Cup, right?

Who does everyone think will be the next first time winner? Netherlands?
My instinct is to look outside of the European also rans, because it's hard to imagine a new world champion where a Cruyff inspired Netherlands failed, a Modric inspired Croatia failed, a Ronaldo inspired Portugal failed.

Africa is the romantic choice, but infrastructure and youth coaching is a factor.

Could Mexico develop a Messi, supporting cast? It seems less likely than the USA summoning their collegiate resources, pathways to European leagues to develop a world champion.

USA for me, and most of their population won't even be arsed.
