I watched the last 20 minutes, the Dutch Villa team didnt really have any chances, but they did break a few times, Ajax really struggled to break down their defence and spent the last 10minutes doing what I can only describe as "play like clowns".

They had 1 defender on the half way line when they were going for broke, It was incredible to see.

Before we talk tactics, 2 basic questions need to be answered:

  1. How hard do his players work?
  2. How organised is his defence?
His defence would seem to be very organised with best defensive record in the league. Based on what Dutchman Jack was saying they work hard at pressing teams.

From my mate, an Ajax season ticket holder for over 20 years, watching every game, home and away for the past 6 seasons. Lad knows his footy.
I asked him a question on de Boer being successful as a PL manager (and their stupid sub and loss today)
"Don't know. I think he's a good coach but not outstanding. For the Ajax system it works fine but he has a bad track record in buying players. Very bad. And I will guess that's something he will have to do in the Premier League. I would take Koeman. He's slowly moving to the top. Very strict, doesn't take no ('shine') from nobody. Is a weird sub. Does it make sense, no not really."

Just thought I would share.

Anyone else following that that Soton are currently in 6th and might finish 4th?
We'd have a devil of a job attracting Koeman unless we're talking money for him and players.
Would he be able to attract top class players to us too?

Lukaku's agent being critical of De Boer, just like he's been nasty about us regarding Lukaku playing for us

---

Player’s agent Mino Raiola has labelled Ajax coach Frank de Boer (photo) as unprofessional and unhelpful.

The agent of Ajax winger Ricardo Kishna hit back at De Boer after the Ajax coach, in an interview with AT5, claimed the behaviour of both Kishna and Raiola had been ‘bizarre.’

Frustrated with the amount of games he was playing, Kishna had arranged to discuss the situation in a meeting with Ajax technical director Marc Overmars.

De Boer, who was unhappy that both the player and his agent had spoken to Overmars, told AT5: ‘It’s quite bizarre. When young players play less they are fed information by people who have no idea about the situation. They then feel they have to say something.’

‘We know the players, we work almost 24 hours a day with them. Sometimes players just have to face facts.’

Agent Raiola reacted angrily to De Boer’s interview claiming he had been invited by Ajax to attend the meeting.

Sneering

‘Perhaps it would be better to communicate with your director before you go sneering to the press,’ Raiola told Voetbal International. ‘I can’t do anything if De Boer knew nothing about the meeting, or whether he agreed with it or not.’

Raiola also hit out at De Boer for going public on a matter he believes should have been dealt with internally by Ajax.

‘It is unprofessional and unhelpful. Of course Frank de Boer decides whether Ricardo Kishna plays or he doesn’t,’ said Raiola. ‘But it doesn’t mean he can always do whatever he wants. There is an unwritten law in football to sort these situations out internally, in the changing room…

‘You often see someone who has been in a job too long lose their focus. Lately, Frank de Boer has been better at talking to the press than communicating with his players,’ Raiola said. ‘And it is the players who are the most important for Ajax. In this case, De Boer going to the press is nothing more than self-promotion.’

Unreal, the lad was 19 when this story "broke", moved to Lazio last Summer and appears to have played less there then he did at Ajax.
