The Future of the Internet?

Picture of my house?

No, I don't work for any corporations. I am staunchly anti-capitalist. But I don't think what you're saying is true. In fact, I think what you're saying is a complete non-sequitr. Websites already charge people for content, Murdoch is saying that he is going to charge people to view the Sun online and ****. Like you're buying the paper. That doesn't mean he's going to strike a deal with ISPs that you can only view his site, he doesn't have that power. None of them do.

And if any of them tried it, the backlash would be severe. It won't happen.

Okay it wasnt you.

You can stick your head in the sand and not see the connection (I value your opinion very much) but it will be too little too late if we don't protect our rights. The internet is still an infant and when it starts to grow up you dont think your government will want to put a paying cap on it?

Whatever the outcome the powers that be view the internet as out of control. A breeding ground for left and right. I'd love to hear some more opinions when you pommies wake up.

tbh i always thought at the back of my mind that t'internet was the last great free expanse of the new world.

this could happen easily. although in korea the netizens would go nuclear.

interesting times.

I'm pretty sure the Chinese version of the internet is very restricted. I remember from the Olympics, you can search for Tianamen square and there is no negative reference, stuff like that so it's defo possible

I heard about a licensing thing a few years back, similar to the tv license thing. But this kind of thought process goes against Freedom of Speech doesn't it?

It's scare mongering, oh and is this a massive coincidence?

world ends in 2012 - Google Search

Pay no mind.

Yeah we've already had the 2012 video link thing.

You didnt know that the Chinese Government heavily censors their peoples Internet? Google were busted a little while back
BBC NEWS | Technology | Google censors itself for China

I'm kind of worried no-one will really take any notice of this until its too late. I guess because the story hasn't, and wont be broken by the mainstream media, who you guessed it are controlled by the mega-corporations.

The Internet was developed for the American Government and the Web pioneered by Tim Berners Lee. The group that regulate the internet standards are basically a bunch of volunteers of the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) while domain names regulator ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) coordinates the distribution of domain names.

What you have is a system that is a global phenomenom, which has only recently been discovered as a social networking and advertising tool. The more the internet becomes intertwined with our own lives, the more we depend on it, and the more it will be controlled.

Im going to do some more reading on this, I think this will become a big issue in regards to freedom of information within our society.

Watch that clip again, the geek with glasses kept saying: "I don't know". Says it all.

China is a ****ed up nation who just don't trust their people. I would like to think that the Western world is a little more sensible with it's rules.

Also look at all the other video clips these ****s have released. And please the note the seedy links attached to the links.

And please stop being so gullible.

Ghost, from your posts I really cant see a valid argument. In fact I cant see anything intelligent in there at all.

Dont you work on websites?

I thought you might have had a valid opinion.

I do, I think it's crap and just created to entice people to click other links. **** me, they have 2 million hits on that video? If I knew then what I know now I would be doing something similar with a link to my site. 2 million potential customers?

I have many friends in the Internet who work at all big companies from Apple to Google, Yahoo to Opera. None of them have said anything of this. So why are these 5 geeks all of a sudden in the know? They have no credibility, they are saying something that they can't prove at all.

The only fact that I can see is the 2012 thing and that being the year that the world is supposed to end, according to the Mayan's and that french fraud Nostradamus.

Ok, now I see your point.

But what are they selling? Themselves as a lie telling collective? To create a viral buzz for a new product?

If you are in the know about it then I have to say its really probably nothing to worry about so good.

I just think theres more to it than that.

Ive read a great article on wired Ill link in a sec.

Well the youtube clips have some kind of click here to see naked women overlayed on it.

I read Wired too i'll take a look.

These guys are basically saying that ISP's are going to be charging us to view sites. Is this on top of the money we pay for them already? And who gets the money if you want to view say GOT?

It's just got loads of holes in it. I reckon there will be an upper echelon of sites, but it's not going to be the end of the Internet. It's just going to be much more friendly, and crap sites are not going to litter it. As well as less porn. Sorry mate.
