Nothing will surpass London as far as I am concerned.
I can't see me watching a great deal because of the time difference.
It just seems to have passed me by to be honest.

The police in Rio de Janeiro say a Russian diplomat trying to repel an attempted robbery near the Olympic Park was involved in a shooting that left the assailant dead. The Russian embassy denied any of their employees were involved in the incident.

The police say the diplomat wrestled with a gunman who was trying to rob him, causing the weapon to go off and killing the criminal. In a statement to The Associated Press, the Russians refuted the police report.

The Russians also said none of their representatives are armed.

Authorities did not identify any of the people involved in the incident but said one man was a Russian vice consul.

The Daily Mail earlier reported that Marcos Cesar Feres Braga, a Brazilian lawyer who holds the vice-consul post at the Russian consulate, grabbed his motorbike-riding assailant and pulled him into his car before the assailant's gun went off in a struggle over the weapon, killing him.

The mugger struck at around midday Thursday as Braga was waiting for traffic to start moving again after the Olympic torch had passed by on Avenida das Americas in the Barra da Tijuca district of Rio, close to the Olympic Park and athletes' village, the Daily Mail reported.

Rio's Homicide Police Station said investigators were still at the crime scene more than five hours following the shooting.

The shooting comes amid heightened security during the Olympics, with 80,000 members of the Brazilian military bolstering police resources

This turned out to be a load of bollocks didn't it?

It seems they are already setting their legacy with this olympics after the succesful world cup.

All i keep hearing is athletes being mugged, stuff robbed, shoddy workmanship etc Hell just heard Great Britian have been robbed and the swimmers have no swimwear for competition for tomorrow!

Skinny dipping then?

...I'm not keen on the opening ceremony but wall to wall sport will be great over the next few weeks, even things like clay pigeon shooting are good if we're in the hunt for a medal.
That's the spirit. If it's competitive, any sport is worth watching and the Olympics mean that they're all desperate for a part of history.

What I find annoying is the banal banter of the commentators but that comes as standard these days. RIP David Coleman!

They are 4 hours behind us I think. At least Rio is. It kicks off at 8.00pm there, and I think it starts at 12.00 here.

Weird, cos they made sure the football was transmitted at decent European times.
The Nigeria match didn't finish till 4.00 a.m. this morning. Let's hope the final is in the afternoon.
