The GOT Book Club

I've started using Audible, I was sceptical at first but actually someone reading you a story is great. So much so I've more or less (temporarily) stopped reading .. this sounds sad but sitting on the train, headphones on and eyes close is more relaxing than reading

Anyone else use Audio books ??
Yes, I've started to. My job that I've had since April involves reading vast swathes of paperwork so reading for pleasure isn't quite as pleasurable as it was. However listening to somebody else read is a nice experience. I still feel as though I'm cheating and not sure if I can claim to have "read" the book.

Read Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel a couple of weeks ago (on offer on the Kindle at the time). Interesting take on a dystopian future (looking at culture still being a need for humans).

£1.29 for the Kindle Edition on Amazon atm and also:

Enjoy £1.00 credit to spend on movies or TV on Amazon Video when you purchase any Amazon Kindle Book from the Kindle Store

Agree its like someone's asked have you read the book they'll say not but I've seen the film, substitute that with someone read it to me, it does feel a bit like cheating. Part of the pleasure of reading is, in your head you make your own ideas of what the characters sound like, with audio books you don't get to do that.

Just finished "the Brooklyn follies" by Paul Auster. Brilliant
Hadn't read one of his books for a few years I'd forgotten how much I love him.
Read this or New York Trilogy :)

Just finished these two, back to back, from Scottish author Stuart MacBride.

Ultra dark crime novels, described as " Scottish Noir " by the critics.

Both books are brilliant reads, but with incredibly dark content.

Superbly written and hard to put down.

The way they are written, is similar to crossing the writing styles of Iain Rankin and Jo Nesbo.

Need to be read together for the continuity.

Can't recommend them enough.

I've almost finished Book 5 of My Struggle by Norwegian writer Karl Ove Knaussgaard. It's a gut-wrenching but at times hilarious account of his childhood and adolescence and his attempts to be accepted as a writer.
Not for all tastes but baby boomers will connect with much of the cultural references in it.
