Do No Harm by Henry Marsh. The memoirs of a brain surgeon and very graphic so hard to take except in small doses. Very moving though. His contention is that neuro surgery is straightforward enough like plumbing.
The hard bit is deciding whether to operate at all and how much damage to risk.

Reading 'white fang' again, what a great book.
Very very funny and well written.
Anyone who doubts what the Tories have done / are doing to the NHS should read this.

If you are into zombie/dystopian stuff, Bobby Adair is also quite fun. The problem with the genre is dodging the survivalist gun-freak fantasists.

If anyone who likes Detective novels is looking for a good holiday read, the D/C Max Wolfe series are very good ( 6 books )
Written by Tony Parsons the ex music journo, who wrote Man and Boy.

Easy to read, well written and true to life plots / stories.

Fantastic book, especially for the ones who are into Eastern philosophy and Farsi figures like Omar Khayyam and Hassan Sabbah.
About 60% through The Ritual atm. Lost an hours sleep because of it last night. Weird, twisted, gory. Think the author might be a mass-murderer in waiting!!
Really good book.
They tired their best with the film, but it doesn`t even come close.
The thing that I found most disturbing about the book, is that it`s not beyond the realms of reality.
Just finished this. Not the best Culture novel, and very dense in parts, but an enjoyable read nonetheless. 7/10

Have you read the Wasp Factory, by him ? ( non scfi - Ian Banks )
If not, make it a must read.
It`s rightly hailed as a modern classic and is possibly one of the most disturbing books I`ve ever read. ( the ending is jaw dropping. )
