yeah read that v good

As so many have mentioned 'Catcher in the Rye' on here, will someone please share with me what they find so 'great' about this book?

Still reading Fabrice Muamba; I'm still standing. Superb at the moment.
Anyone got any other decent Football reccomendations ? Thinking Gary Neville; RED or Paul Merson's.

Also, read Catcher in the Rye last year for GCSE in School, Can someone also explain what you find good about it ? Bored me to hell.

Sad to hear that James Herbert has passed away.

My favourite author of the horror genre.

Thanks for some great reads ! And R.I.P

Seconded, but I thought he looked terrible over the last few years, he hardly wrote anything, so maybe he was hiding a secret illness. Loved his books though.

RE: The Catcher in the Rye, I think it's just one of those books you like or you don't. Its difficult to explain why you like it without sounding like a goddamm phoney or corney as hell.

I like it because by the second chapter you already know more about Holden Caufield than you do about yourself.

Or sounding like Holden Caufiled!

Maybe I came to the book too late, I was 40 when I read it and I don't think I felt like I knew more about Holden than myself by the end of the book never mind the second chapter. Some books, stories are as much about the time and place that you read them as they are about the book itself.

It was just a screwed up kid feeling sorry for himself from my jaded perspective.

Connor, at least I'm not alone!

I felt that too, and I read it when I was 18 so I guess its more time and place rather than a set age.

Also, American Gods just arrived. Getting stuck in.

Sad about james herbert enjoyed his books.

I'm reading a book by Dick Francis about horse racing(it's a crime story centered around Horse racing) not normally my genre but it's not too bad. I can't remember what it's called haha that's how good it is lol.

About a fella who gives tips out and has an amazing run thanks to some shadowy types by any chance???

If so I've read it myself, decent read.

Read my first Reacher/Childs book not long ago too.
