The GOT Book Club

Also, if you buy your books online. EASONS in Ireland are great value. Always cheaper than going into their bookshops, usually by 10 - 15%.
Next day in Ireland, free postage over 10 euro.
Also delivers to UK though timescale I wouldn't know.

Olive a bit of historical fiction, along the lines of Cornwell, Forester, Stocking, Iggulden, and O'Brien.

Currently reading a new series by Dewey Lambdin. The 'Alan Lewrie' series. It's a bit like Hornblower, or Kydd, but the protagonist is a cad and a scoundrel! It's pretty good fun!

The latest in the Harry Hole detective series from Jo Nesbo.

Very pleased to report, that he’s back on top form again, after his last couple of books, which felt a bit flat and formulaic.

Would make a good Christmas present for anyone who likes dark Skandi noir detective stuff.

Just finished it at the weekend and very much enjoyed it, I noticed in Waterstones that the same author had a few more books and I'm going to try them

Reading a good true crime book at the moment, it's called The Snake Head by Patrick Radden Keefe. It goes back to the 90's and it's about this old Chinese woman who had a small noodle shop in New York and she was basically running a vast global criminal network out the back of the shop. It's complex but a good read.
Good read indeed.

Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir.

This is the next book from the fella that wrote the hugely successful “ The Martian “

Similar book to The Martian, except this one is space mission in race against time to save earth from being wiped out, by an alien organism, that’s consuming all the energy of the sun.

Not a science heavy as The Martian, well written and funny too.

Really enjoyed this one myself.
Thought it got a bit formulaic in parts though. Something goes terribly wrong, protagonist uses SCIENCE! And witty humour to fix problem, rinse and repeat.

Great read otherwise though!

Moved onto the Mistborn series after finish The Storm light Archives.

Put a lot of historical stuff on my Christmas list.

Shogun by James Clavell in advance of the telly series.

The master and commander first book.

I, Claudius and Imperium.

And Atilla by William Napier.
