The GOT Book Club

I'm pretty sure it's all but confirmed it was Dave Kitson.

has he ever been called up to the England squad? And is he a striker? Was he ever sold for a large transfer fee?

If there's one "no" to these questions, then it's not him.

Either that, or the 'clues' we've had have been bollocks.

Think it's a yes to all of those - the England squad being a major clue. He was going to be called up to the England sqaud, went out on the lash and got done drink driving, Capello then omitted him. It was the subject of one of his columns.

There are apparently other facts that don't match his career - but he's the best candidate overall.

Sounds like a good bet.

If it is someone as largely irrelevant as Dave Kitson, then I'm not surprised he's marketed himself as "The Secret Footballer" to drum up hype and sales.

But the 'revelations' really aren't all that. There wouldn't be that much fuss if he had his name on the book and the exact same words in it.

i think his transfer fee to Stoke was quite large. Something else too, something about going on holidays to Denmark when he was a kid.

Currently reading Skagboys (will try to read the whole Trainspotting series, as I have it), but it's going really slow due to uni work being a tad more important.

Enjoying it though, even if it's really hard to read at times for obvious reasons...

Might be too late but Id suggest reading them in the order they were written rather than the books chronological order. There are a few bits and pieces in Skagboys that on;y make sense, or give you an in joke, that you would nt get if you have not read Trainspotting and to a lesser extent Porno.

bit underwhelmed if it is him...but then The Guardian have form in underwhelming football exclusives.

Aye, I couldn't read Trainspotting because of the phonetic style of writing.

I've only read 'Filth' by Welsh. Enjoyed it, although not enteriely sure that's the right word.

Had me speaking 'Scottish' for a week after. Did me fooking heid in.

Just got it from 'The Works' £7.99 and only came out at Xmas, I'm not a reader myself tbh. I was until we did O'level English Lit at school but since then I've only prob finished 3 books (left school in '84), but as it's a footy book I'm giving it a go.

Just read The Road by Cormac McCarthy. If anyone is into dystopian-genre literature you may like it - all the critics love it. I just didn't enjoy it though; his style and layout bored me really, it became really repetitive, quite quickly.

A lot of his stuff does get repetative even Blood Meridean, his best book by far. Yet i still recommend it for its brooding evil malevolent (and based on truth0 storyline.

To be honest mate, I don't think I can bear to spend another few hours of my life reading one of his books. I can appreciate why he's so popular just not my thing really.
