it's that borderlands backdrop that works so well, it's reminiscent of Steinbeck's depression era CaliforniaAnother big fan of Cormac McCarthy here. His writing is as beautiful as it is unsettling, he writes like he's towering over the scene like God.
Just who or what is the judge? Theres a passage near the end that i can only paraphrase here
The kid lokked accross the room and watched the Judge whisper in the ears of the cowboys as he had, through the years, done so in the ears of Ceasers, Kings and potentates.......is he sying the judge is of supernature? or speaking in metaphore?
I think they done well with no country for old menI don't think anyone really knows who the Judge is to be honest and I think McCarthy wrote his character like that !
If you go on the McCarthy forums there's arguments galore about him and no definitive answer .
He's a brilliant character and I know that they've tried to get a film off the ground which has partly floundered due to not having a clue who could actually play the part of the Judge. The only serious contender being Tom Hardy, the English actor who played Bronson. Blood Merridian has been labelled as impossible to make due to its content !

American Psycho movie version is a great example, because it works well as a movie (IMHO) without trying to be the bookAn example of this would be the film version of American Pyscho. Although Christian Bale really is top notch as Patrick Bateman, the fact that they have removed some of the gratuitous ultra sick violence changes the whole character of the film - in my opinion.

I agree Blood Meridian would be difficult to successfully film, although I'm not sure I'd actually like to see them try TBH
is it though ?????View attachment 6340 Another cracker - Iain Banks first novel - The Wasp Factory.
Set in the remote Highlands of Scotland and is about a strange and disturbed young boy. Wonderfully written for a short book and has one of the most disturbing endings of any book I've read. Still to this day unlike anything Banks has written since . ( Ps I do like a certain type of book ! ).
is it though ?????
I agree mate, but some of the content of Blood Merridian wouldn't be acceptable to mainstream American audiences - scalping babies for one. To sanitise the film would ruin it.

Just downloaded on the Kindle, Guantanamo Diary by Mohamedou Ould Slahi
there's a very very specific part of your synopsis that I was questioning though hmmmmI'd say so, as I developed a sense of foreboding and unease whilst reading it which was proved right at the end. I haven't found any of his other books to be as unsettling, although it's down to each individuals interpretation ?.
